    - The G80 Sport brings a new 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 joins the 5.0-liter V8 and 3.8-liter V6 as a welcome engine option
    - Modern design updates and standard feature enhancements throughout the vehicle offer world-class luxury and driver convenience
    - Expanded standard safety features for 2018 provide the most comprehensive suite of safety technology within the midsize luxury segment

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., April 20, 2017 – Genesis today announced pricing details for the 2018 G80 Sport luxury midsize sedan starting at $41,750. In only the second year of its life cycle, the G80 has received numerous key engineering and design improvements for the new model year, including the availability of a new 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 GDI engine that provides an ideal combination of spirited performance and efficiency. The 3.3L turbocharged V6 engine is exclusively equipped on the new 2018 Genesis G80 Sport trim which is arriving next month at Genesis retailers with a MSRP of $55,250 (RWD). The rest of the enhanced 2018 Genesis G80 line up powered by the 5.0-liter V8 and 3.8-liter V6 will be available this Summer.

“We are especially excited about adding the new Sport trim to the enhanced 2018 G80 model line,” said Erwin Raphael, general manager of Genesis in the U.S. “The multiple engineering and design enhancements in only its second year make a powerful statement about how the Genesis brand is on a never-ending mission to provide our customers with the best automobile possible, while achieving improved performance capability and competitiveness within the midsize luxury sedan segment.”

Here is a complete price list of all option packages for the G80 3.8L V6. The G80 3.3 TT Sport Model and the G80 5.0 are fully loaded and have no options other than AWD:

At this price range the sport model selling along Sonatas and other cheap cars at the same dealers is going to meet some stiff competition from the BMW 5 series, Audi A6 and Lexus GS350. It will be interesting to see how many they can sell against these established luxury brands that have dedicated dealers. The dealers do not know yet how to cater to luxury car buyers.

I don't know if you are aware, but the plan is to have dedicated dealers in place over the next 2-5 years. It takes time to sell and build dealerships. Dealerships are not owned by the manufacturer, but by individual investors or corporations (AutoNation, etc). They have to invest at least several million dollars to start a dealership. If you that kind of money and want to own a dealership, I would contact Genesis Motors USA.

A dedicated dealership cannot be profitable with only the G80 and G90. Within the next 2-3 years, Genesis will add the G70 small sedan, and two SUV/CUV's. These days, even Lexus sells more SUV/CUV's than sedans.

Genesis has fairly minimal impact on MB and BMW, altho there are some buyers like those who opt for a 5.0 G80 (since they don't want to pay MB or BMW prices for an 8 cylinder).

    2017 Sales YTD

    G80 - 3,952 (another 698 of Genesis sales)
    A6 - 3,678
    Q70 - 1,962
    GS - 1,695
    XF - 1,285
    RLX - 293

Think the G80 is doing just fine against the likes of the GS (which is rumored, again, to be on the chopping block) and the addition of the G80 Sport should only increase sales (or, at the very least, keep G80 sales from slipping against its competition even as more and more buyers switch to crossovers).

Mark, that is true but is not our problem it's their problem. I went to two "Genesis" dealers a few months ago. One is actually side by side with the dealers Cadillac store. After five minutes there I left because the atmosphere was simply not one I wanted to deal with.

I am not saying it is your problem. But some people think that a nationwide dealership network can be created with a wave of the hand by the manufacturer. It's not that simple.

I have personally noted before that I think Genesis Motors dealers may still not measure up to expectations, because I suspect that many will be owned and managed by current Hyundai dealer owners. A fish rots from the head down.

If I have to go to a dealer regarding my Hyundai Genesis (only about 4 times, including purchase and a several recalls), I just hold my nose and get out as soon as I can. I do my own oil changes.

No, it's not. Looks like the 2018 G80.

There is a pic of the G80 Sport at the link provided. The G80 Sport has a mesh grill.
