Does anyone have access to the sales numbers for the G90 since it first went on sale? Also, the split between V8 and V6 versions.

On another thread I saw numbers of 300+ country wide in the month of April. That ain't a lot of cars. Toyota makes more Camry's than that in an hour or two.

Knowing the monthly production volume will help to make a better judgment. I know you were joking but it's not fair to compare the G90 with the Camry.

True enough, and yes, I was joking. I really wouldn't expect the G90 to be anywhere the same in volume. Still, when you think about country wide sales, that's a pretty small number. Helps explain why I haven't seen another one in the Cincinnati area.

The ultimates are even rarer still. When I bought mine a couple months back, it was the only one for sale in Cincinnati. Haven't seen any more in dealer's inventory since. Makes me almost afraid to drive it since it will be hard to replace if some jerk runs a red light and totals it. None the less, I will continue to drive it because it's just so darn nice.

Maybe we should just put them in the garage, they will be automatic collectors items at this pace.

The more I drive it, the more certain I am that I will buy it when the lease is up. Of course, if the next model is just as nice and at the same price point, who knows.

If they do have another that is purchase worthy, there is no way I can turn this thing in and not take it on the chin. My miles will be over, and there is just always wear and tear. I plan on either a quick flip on a car selling service or keep it until the wheels fall off. My BMW turn in experience was awful......ly expensive!

I'm with you on buying it at lease end. I'm afraid I'm going to be way over on mileage if I don't slow down. Then again, what's the point of having it if you can't enjoy it.

I suspect the word will get around and the auto magazines will start to take it seriously. I'm sure sales will pick-up into the next year. Auto Week is doing a long term test on a premium model and their first quarter report was almost gushing. They seem willing to accept the car as it is and don't seem to mind that it isn't a sports/luxury car like the German brands. Mind you, the handling is pretty darn good anyway. They had nothing bad to say about the car and never once mentioned the shifter like so many other reviews. Nothing negative about the wood trim either other than they thought it would be better with a less glossy finish.

The only major complaint I have about the G90 is the road noise when driving on harsh pavement and going over small bumpy road partitions. The noise level at this type of roads is still high, other than that the car is very quite. Engine noise is almost none existence so is the wind noise and I hope that remain the case.

Have to keep in mind that the flagship sedan segment has really shrunk in sales (w/ the S Class being the lone, real volume seller w/ the CT6 and 7 Series kinda in btwn).

    2017 YTD

    S Class - 5,139
    CT6 - 3,382
    7 Series - 3,097
    Panamera - 1,715
    G90 - 1,519
    LS - 1,238
    A8 - 1,084
    XJ - 966
    K900 - 147

Toss in these 2 as well -

    Conti - 4,212
    RLX - 399

It is clear that Genesis is throttling production. They have the capability to manufacture much more and it seems like a very smart strategy to build the brand in the right way. Mine should be here at the end of the month and I cannot wait to drive around in it.

You are comparing to a car that hasnt had a redesign in many years

I would say wait until the new LS500 rolls out and then compare the numbers

I bet you see a serious uptick in the Lexus numbers

why would say they are throttling back production?

if any manufacturer wasnt producing the cars that the market demanding they would be crazy...since they are "for profit" companies

What they might be doing is trying to keep a glut of cars coming off lease at the same time

But the lease residual is at 43% for this car after 36 months...so its really already at the low point
I guess if they flooded the market they could even drive it down further when the 3 year old lease cars come back in

    I use this link
    http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2015/11...ly-yearly.html

Its really not fair to compare $$ on cars that are in completely different price classes

    A good litmus test is to check cars like the Mercedes E class..BMW 5 series...Lexus GS..Cadillac CT6

Doesnt take you long to figure out that luxury sedans are a shrinking market and that the Germans seems to be dominating the segment
Its seems that Hyundai/Genesis needs to get a slew of SUV's/Crossovers in the market place

That category is far more profitable , growing and the Germans dont have it locked up

That's no one's fault but Toyota's (and the reason why Toyota didn't launch a new LS on schedule was that they wanted to squeeze every last penny out of the current platform and engine as the ROI isn't great).

And nonetheless, no matter the circumstances, there were many doubters that the G90 would ever outsell the LS (much less the A8 and XJ which are on normal schedule).

Can always play the game of wait.

No doubt the new LS500 should turn the table by a good margin (at least at the start). but one could always just say - wait until the next gen G90 (which should be significantly better in all areas, but particularly in sheetmetal).

    Hyundai isn't throttling production.

In fact, a year or so ago, they came to an agreement w/ the Korean auto union to double G90 production in order to meet demand.

Nonetheless, they seem to be pretty careful with the supply of G90s for the US market - which is fine as they are still filling back-orders for the Korean market.

Well, then the LS shouldn't be compared to the S Class or for that matter, even the 7 Series at the high end (where only the S Class in Maybach form is seen as being a lower-cost alternative to a Bentley or Rolls).

And this was especially true years ago.

    1999 Base prices

    LS400 - $55,186
    Jaguar Vanden Plas - $66,613
    Audi A8 4.2 Quattro - $67,500
    BMW 740iL - $68,828
    MB S430 - $72,353

Except, that's what the G80 competes against (except for maybe the CT6 which is a tweener).

While many Genesis buyers come from inside the Korean automaker’s family – most directly from Hyundai – Lexus owners represent the largest segment – 30% – of conquest buyers to the brand, followed by BMW (15%), Cadillac and Mercedes-Benz (both 11%). Acura, Audi, Infiniti and Lincoln buyers make up the balance of conquest buyers.

    Good article and interesting strategy.

I bucked the trend somewhat, was only 44.

    Sept 2016=10 cars sold, Oct=92, 301,379, Jan 2017=468, 327, 408, 316, May 2017= 397 if you don't want to hit the sales link a couple posts above.
