    Default 7500 MILE Service

    Members don't see this ad
Brought my 2017 G80 in for its first 7500 mile service to my Hyundai / Genesis dealer. Told them I wanted the oil change to be with full synthetic and get a tire rotation. While he was putting the info in the computer a notice appeared that the car has a recall--which was for a map update. Picked up the car an hour later and they had put in Mobil 1 synthetic, did the tire rotation and said that they had to order the map update and will call me when in. They charged me $38 for an up charge for the synthetic oil. Does that seem reasonable?

Seems reasonable as it takes about 7 1/2 quarts for a change. You could buy the oil itself for about that price but a dealer is going to charge full list price.
AFAIK, the map update was on hold because of a problem of some sort. Recall of a recall?

My dealer charged $39 for the blend to full synthetic differential. It is what it is. At least the labor is free for three years. I'm following the Severe maintenance schedule, 3,750 miles or six months, and go next month for the 7500 miles or 12 month interval. Had the first oil change at six months. I am planning to get the map update if available. Didn't know it might be shown as a recall item.

$38 is reasonable considering they are a profit making business.

A map update is not a recall. It is a technical service bulletin (TSB). There is a TSB for all recalls, but not all TSB's are recalls.

A recall is coordinated with the NHTSA government agency, and owners must be notified by mail. To find an official recall for your VIN, check this website: https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls

Will be going for my first oil change in about a week.
I'll be watching to see about the map update mentioned here.

Make sure to ask them about it, because it is highly unlikely to be mandatory.

$45 for two 5 quart bottles at Walmart. Pennzoil has a $10/per 5 quart bottle. So after rebates, it should set you back $25.

Might want to check around. We only use full synthetic Valvoline at my dealership, and don't charge extra for it. Might be a dealer near you that does the same. Genesis only reimburses dealerships $40 for an oil change on the G80, so I don't make anything on it, but it is what it is. Makes the customer keep coming back.

My dealer is doing standard oil every 3,000 miles at no cost - full synthetic with less frequency would be great convenience.

I'm using synthetic also, every 7500 miles. My dealer charges about the same ($40-50) for the difference between the conventional and synthetic oil. In reality, the cost is similar to what I used to pay for my oil changes on my Sonata (3750 miles, conventional oil, approx $30-40).
