    Default Park Button Question

    Members don't see this ad
Took a test drive in a 2018 G80 3.8 Utimate this past weekend. Was a little confused about the new Park Button. Obviously to put the car in park you have to press the park button. This can be done from reverse, nuteral, and drive. Iím assuming you have to step on the brake to engage park. I asked the Genesis salesman this question, ďwhat would happen if the Park Button got depressed while driving? He did not know. So thatís why I am assuming you must have the brakes engaged first. But I did not see that in the owners manual.

Very dangerous to think you could lock up the tranny by accidentally hitting the Park button while driving. Anyone know the answer?

Otherwise I loved the handling, acceleration, and the adaptive cruise control, along with the infotainment system. Was a little disappointed to learn that the rear leg room in the new Genesis is about 3.5 inches less than my 2009 Hyundai Genesis. Also, the dynamic audio range controls didnít seem to make any difference in sound quality. That caused me some concern as well.

    Hi Cviz,

I had the same fear when I brought my 18' G80 as i like to place my hand on the gear shifter. the good news is that the car will tell you to stop before the P button will work if you hit it accidently.

You should get the same message if you try to go into reverse also. I don't know what the alleged benefit of electronic shifting is. It is not very hard to push the lever forward and push the button on the side to go into Park. You lose the ability to manually shift to lower gears with the lever.

I believe the car will shift into park automatically if you shut the car off. Test this before assuming it works. Ford also does this on some of their rotary shifters

On Monday, I was at the dealership, sat in a Sport, and noticed the new shifter with the parking button. HARD PASS!

If you hit the park button while moving, it won't do anything. It'll chirp and a message will show up on the gauge cluster saying you must stop moving before shifting into park.

The P button takes some getting used to if youíre coming from a previous Genesis. Iím not crazy about it yet.
