Genesis G70 Resets Expectations of Performance and Luxury

A new era dawned today as Genesis officially presented the highly anticipated G70 luxury performance sedan at the Hyundai·Genesis Design Center in Namyang. Dr. Woong-Chul Yang, Vice Chairman of the Hyundai Motor Group’s R&D Division, key Genesis brand officials, and approximately 300 international automotive journalists participated in the activities. The G70 goes on sale in Korea on September 20th, with timing for its rollout in other markets to be announced soon.

 “The Genesis G70 is the latest demonstration of our dedication to delivering innovative, customer-oriented vehicles,” said Vice Chairman Yang. “We will continue to focus our R&D efforts on the development and expansion of the Genesis brand. It is a great point of pride to have Genesis showcase what a true luxury brand of Korean origin can present to our discerning customers.”

The Genesis G70 is an athletic sedan characterized by its graceful and dynamic exterior styling; elegant and intuitively designed interior; choice of three different powertrains. Customers will be able to select between a turbocharged 3.3-liter gasoline V6, a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline I4, and a 2.2-liter I4 diesel models.

The G70 also incorporates numerous advanced driver assist systems such as Highway Driving Assist (HDA), best-in-class safety with nine standard airbags and active hood function, and a high level of connectivity with server-based voice recognition technology, using Kakao Corp’s artificial intelligence platform. Hot stamping methods and extended use of structural adhesives have been employed to enhance torsional rigidity and improve overall body stiffness.

Today, the 2017 Genesis G90 was named “Best in Class, Ideal Luxury Car” in AutoPacific’s annual Ideal Vehicle Awards (IVA). The 2017 Ideal Vehicle Awards are presented by AutoPacific to vehicles that best meet their owners’ expectations and desires. They are based on responses from more than 54,000 owners of new cars and light trucks. Participants shared what changes they would make to their vehicles in 15 categories including ride, handling, power, acceleration, safety and technology.

“The Genesis G90 is a vehicle designed to appeal to even the most discerning consumers,” said Erwin Raphael, general manager of Genesis in the U.S. “Our goal was to design a flagship vehicle that redefines the meaning of luxury and we are thrilled to know that we have so closely met our owners’ expectations.”

The G90 excelled in IVA’s visibility, passenger room and safety categories. This award follows the G90’s win as the top overall vehicle in AutoPacific’s New Vehicle Satisfaction Awards, obtaining the highest-ever score. Additionally, the luxury vehicle received the AutoPacific President’s and Most Satisfying Vehicle Overall awards.

Augmented reality (AR) has come to your luxury car. The Genesis Augmented Reality Manual (Genesis Virtual Guide) is now available for the 2017 Genesis G80and Genesis G90 as a free download on the Apple® App Store and Google Play®. Genesis Virtual Guide is a modern take on the traditional owner’s manual, allowing consumers to use their smartphone or tablet to get how-to information for repairs, maintenance and vehicle features. Using 2-D and 3-D tracking technology, the Virtual Guide is able to deliver in-depth levels of information related to specific parts of Genesis vehicles. The manual will be compatible with 2018 models later this year. 

“As a new luxury brand we continue to focus our efforts on the continually evolving customer expectations and innovations,” said Erwin Raphael, general manager of Genesis in the U.S. “Our mobile app strategy is designed around empowering our customers and helping them to save time and frustration. The Virtual Guide provides our owners with a new way to learn about and get to know their vehicles.” 

To maximize on customer value, Genesis used quality and consumer survey results to determine the top features to incorporate into the Virtual Guide. The app contains a number of informational guides including: 135 how-to videos and 25 3-D overlay images that appear once users scan areas of their vehicle, like the engine bay. A complete owner’s manual is also included inside the app.
