Today, the Genesis G70 was awarded the 2019 North American Car of the Year. In receiving this highly coveted industry award, Genesis joins leading luxury and mainstream automotive brands to have won the award and stands as the youngest brand to have done so.
“At Genesis, our brand and products must perfectly match our customers’ lifestyles, mindsets and desires,” said Manfred Fitzgerald, Executive Vice President and Global Head of the Genesis Brand. “This award is a testament to the G70, which combines luxury with sports-focused elegance. And now, for the entire Genesis brand, I’d like to thank the North American Car of the Year jury for taking the time to see and experience our design and engineering teams’ intent.”
“For a still-young brand, winning this highly prestigious award, as well as the other significant awards the G70 has collected, will certainly give Genesis a presence boost in the marketplace,” said Erwin Raphael, Executive Director, Genesis Motor America. “We’re thrilled to give more people the opportunity to get behind the wheel and experience the compelling qualities and capabilities the expert NACTOY jurors voted for.”
Today, Car and Driver announced the selection of the 2019 Genesis G70 as a 2019 10Best award winner at an awards event in conjunction with the Los Angeles Auto Show. “We are honored that the editors of Car and Driver recognized the G70 as a luxury sports sedan worthy of receiving their highest recommendation,” said Erwin Raphael, executive director, Genesis Motor America. “We’re inspired that the performance and luxury promise of the car resonates not only with our customers but also with some of the most respected third parties.” This is the first time that a Genesis model has been named to the 10Best list. Car and Driver has issued a 10Best list since 1983.
“It’s rare that a new entry in a hotly-contested segment draws even with the class leaders, let alone beats them. But the G70 does just that,” said Eddie Alterman, editor-in-chief of Car and Driver. “And this new Genesis doesn’t achieve its position through simple mimicry. It has its own point-of-view—a smart balance of luxury, performance, and efficiency.” The 2019 Genesis G70 luxury sport sedan resets benchmarks and expectations in its class for the holistic integration of leading performance, refined luxury, and aerodynamic style. G70 is the third of six new Genesis models to debut by 2021 and the final sedan of the lineup. As the first Genesis model in the highly- competitive entry-level luxury segment, G70 outperforms legacy luxury sport sedans with driver-focused performance.
Today, the 2019 Genesis G70 was named a top-three finalist for 2019 North American Car of the Year (NACTOY). This is the first time that a Genesis model has been nominated to the most selective round of NACTOY judging and testing. Earlier in the year, G70 was named one of 14 semi-finalists; the winner will be announced at the North American International Auto Show this coming January. “We are thankful to the NACTOY jurors for recognizing the inherent qualities of the G70,” said Manfred Fitzgerald, Executive Vice President and Global Head of the Genesis Brand. “We are also delighted to see such a dynamic product resonate well with our clientele across the world.”
“We are humbled by the NACTOY jurors’ recognition of the G70 at a very important time for Genesis in the United States,” said Erwin Raphael, Executive Director of Genesis Motor America. NACTOY jurors, composed of an independent panel of journalists and analysts based in the United States and Canada, have recognized top cars, trucks, and utility vehicles since 1994. This year’s jury of 54 represents legacy newspapers and magazine experts, broadcast veterans, digital columnists, and freelancers.
