  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all, question for all you detailing gurus, my Genny sits a lot and accumulates a lot of dust. Although my Genny is clean, what do you all recommend to remove the dust of course without scratching the paint?

Thanks.

Might get many opinions here, but maybe a quick spray and wipe with a spray wax/detailer. It acts as a lube, and won't scratch, as long as it's just dust you're wiping. Car dusters' scratch and my detailer says NO to them:cool:

Thanks Scottdk, in the past, I hose the car down and wipe dry but those nasty runoff water spots leave white marking on my black noir pearl. Also, I live in an area with hard water and should not have to wash and wax each time to get that deep glass shine. My Genny is roughly 4 months young and I can honestly say four wax jobs to date.

i would stick with the spray detailer/wax idea thats what i bought for my 5.0r spec and it works pretty well on my black. before i had the same problem one drive would accumalate alot of dust just make sure its not a thick build up of dust or else you'd probably start putting marks on your paint use a terry cloth.

Make sure the area you're wiping is quite wet with detail spray. If it collects GARAGE dust I would say use a california car duster. If it is parking lot dust...don't haha

You didn't say whether the dust is from sitting in the garage or outside. I had a black BMW and I used a very light weight Tyvex automobile cover when in the garage. They're really inexpensive ($80) and work great as a very lightweight dust cover that doesn't scratch. If you buy one, wash it a few times and it will become incredibly soft. You can find them on the net, get the larger size (I think its a size 5).

Thank you all for your input. I just purchased more car care products from autogeek including 3M quick wax. Also, I believe in the near future I will purchase some type of car cover to keep the dust off the vehicle while parked in the garage for an extensive period.

Hello, I am not sure if you all were aware or not of the best way to clean you dusty Genny. As I mentioned before about how often my Genny sits and accumulates dust. Well, I took my leaf blower and blew all the dust off without any problems and viola, look like I just washed and waxed. Also, most of you all are Meguirars fans yet I used 3M Performance Finish and was very satisfied with the results. 3M is a product that I’ve used in the past and was surprised that no wax build-up developed while wiping. However, I am seeing those holograms and believe most likely this is coming from build-up absorbed by the micro fiber towel. Do you all have any thoughts or suggestions on how to mitigate those holograms?
Thanks.

Take your car to the a great detailer in your area. Also, be careful with the leaf blower, as on windy days the blower can pick up particles of grit and sand and sand blast your beautiful car.

Zaino or klasse

Zaino or klasse

I have good results with Klasse once a year ( with clay treatment) followed by meguiars no. 26 - I then do the #26 several times during the year. Car looks great. I like that combination. My friends use Zaino and it also looks good on their rides.

Thank you all for responding to my inquiries. However, I have a new problem, what are you all doing to prevent water spots from appearing. My Genny was left outside after a down poor of rain and immediately after the rain storm the sun dried the car leaving water spots. I tired washing, waxing, and to no avail some spots remain. Maybe I am not rubbing hard enough. Although I recall getting a workout yet, they are still there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try this

Vinegar can be effective on some water spots which are still above the surface of the paint, but once they have etched below the surface it will be ineffective.

Wash and then clay, then paste wax...should do trick
