  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Are able to program a new smart key ourself or do we need a dealer?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Where did you get the new smart key, and how much did it cost? I could use one.

Thanks,

FYI - I believe only 2 smart keys can be programmed per vehicle.

I would like to share my experience in obtaining a spare smart key.

I found a vendor on eBay that advertised a brand new smart key. A Mobius OEM smart key came in a sealed OEM package for my Genesis for about a third the price of purchasing one from my state side dealer.

The purchased key, I was very pleased with it since as a bonus the case had sliver wings on the back and other than that was identical to my original.

Thinking I hit the jackpot I took the new OEM key still sealed in the Mobius package to my Hyundai Service rep for programing. The technician came out to the waiting room and informed me he was able to program the key to start the car if the key was in the slot in the dash, but none of the other functions of the key worked because it did not have the correct radio frequency. He was nice enough to provide with the complete correct Mobius part number for the smart key for my Genesis.

Contacted vendor (In South Korea) and told him of the RF mismatch of the key. He said, yes the RF settings are different for cars in different geological locations. He said he was sorry, but he couldn’t supply a smart key with the correct frequency for the United States, but He would accept the return key and refund my money.

The only catch is Fed-X won’t touch it, UPS said it would be more cost effective to let DHL handle the return. DHL wanted $86.10 to deliver to key to the vendor in Korea because of import taxes and duty fees.

Out of desperation I when to USPS and obtained a reasonable charge to return the key.

Moral, if you order from vendor outside of the US, make sure you know what you are getting and ask you service provider for the correct part number for your car and verify it with your vendor.

Like I always told my kids, "If your dumb, you have to be tuff and the dumber you are the tuffer you have to be"

It is worn-out. I found this video on changing the key pad but couldn't find the spare key pad itself.

You can usually order a remote case on eBay; I did a quick search for "Hyundai remote case" and found quite a few.

When I first bought my Genesis, I found a high quality remote cover from sharkracing on eBay; link here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-Hyunda...Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item20b54125bb

Fits perfectly, and covers the whole remote, including the keypad. An ounce of prevention..... you know the rest. ;)

BEWARE!! Smart key programming

I am sitting at the dealership now! I have read where u can get the smart key from various places. FYI- each key is programmed to a VIN number. Once it is programmed for one car, it can never be used on a different car. This is direct from hyundai as a safety feature. SOOO, if u buy a used one (for example: eBay) you will not be able to use a previously programmed key.
To program a NEW key is $118 + price of the key. To re-program your key (dessert battery) is about $65.

Hi ,
I have a question , if once the key was re-programm , for one car , can I re-program KEY in second time? , or it will be lock

Because , I bought one key with NUMBER , but it doesn't work , and can I re-programm this key or it is lock?

P.S. it was and now programm to one car , not for another
thanks

A smartkey can be reassigned to a new car at a dealer (requires access to HMA's security service via computer), but the metal backup key cannot and you would need to have a new one cut (obviously).
