  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

As Hyundai fails to provide the 5.0 Genesis in any primary color, I am considering a black car. Never had one because there seems to be so many of them and the problems associated with keeping them looking good.

I no longer care to spend much time washing and detailing my main modes of transportation. When I get the desire to wax something (a rare feeling these days), it is one of the Vettes that get the attention.

So------------in a good touchless car wash with a good blower at the end of it, how well does a black car end up looking???

It will be descent, but will strip any sealant or wax off in 3 to 4 washes.

I have had several black cars over the years and loved them. Nothing looks better than a clean black car. With that being said I was much younger and had the time and energy to spend cleaning ALL the time. So I lean toward white and silver cars these days. Find yourself a local detailer that will do a good hand wash. Luckily there several in my area even have one that I take my lifted crew cab long bed duramax too inside and out $20.

The VERY FEW times I've taken my car to a brushless wash, I've spent at least 45 minutes to an hour "correcting" it afterwards. From wiping down all the excess water that never clears off, to applying instant detailer, to applying tire gel, re-cleaning the windows, etc.

I've decided it's really not worth it, since it would only take me an additional 15-30 minutes to do it all myself anyway... and no swirl-marks.

Plus, I have no idea what long-term effects that sort of water pressure and chemicals used have on my paint protection (i.e. sealant/wax).

Then again... I'm pretty anal about keeping my car clean. Some folks just don't have that kind of time, space or equipment to do it themselves.

What kind of owner are you? ;)

I suggest buying the White Genesis.

I actually just saw a white 2012 Genesis a few days ago in my area and the whole part surrounding the exhaust were BLACK with soot. Very noticable.

I live in LA so its quite dusty....so i wash it at least once a week...because during that week we get bug poop...bird poop...or even if i dont get bird poop it gets really...really dusty and looks nasty....plus the sun so...no matter what i wash it every week...but then again im still young and have the energy to spend 1-2 hours washing it.

I was tempted on getting white but somehow i ended up getting black...if you can take care of it go for it :D

Gunkk
Ain't That the Truth, I in the past also had black cars and I have to say that when a black car is freshly washed there is nothing like it. Now the upkeep is insane if your the type that is worried if your car is clean or not.

I have a silver car right now, and honestly it is the first silver car that I gave ever had and I must say the upkeep is just about next to nothing. Now when silver is clean is looks great IMHO

Sounds to me like a great bonding experience opportunity. Washing the family car with my father when I was a kid is one of those memories I treasure.

My son is 5, and my daughter is 9. I try to get one of them to "help" me every other weekend. Even if it's filling the buckets or wiping the wheels dry.

:)

And sometimes, washing my car is my "zen" time. It is my stress reliever. But I hear ya.

Getting my kids to do 'extra' work??? it's hard enough to get them to pay attention let alone doing work. I agree with your thinking in theory, lol

I take my car to a wand wash with a sealed bucket of water and carwash soap and also do a hand wash. I pressure wash first then hand wash, second I pressure rinse, third I use the spot free application as a final rinse. Then I drive home at high speeds to air dry the rest of the car. Once home I speed wax the car with Mothers Showtime spray wax using soft flannel towels I got at Costcos. Then I put the car cover on and it only comes off when I use the car. I only drive on dry days. The process last about a month unless I mistakenly drive through a construction zone at which time I need to do this process all over again. I am fortunate to have two cars so when the weather is bad I drive the other car (Sonata). I am also retired so I can usually drive only when there is descent weather.

A Black Genny is absolutely the most stunning when clean, that usually lasts about an hour after it's cleaned. One of my past businesses was a full service automatic car wash, I never owned a black, dark blue, dark green, maroon or charcoal gray car. Kudos to you guys that own black Gennys for keeping them
detailed, those cars really standout.

We have one black R-Spec and one black Volvo. The Volvo paint has more metallic in it than the Genny, and that makes any imperfections less noticeable. I have found that some brushless car washes do a pretty good job if you select the wash cycle without wax and wheel scrubber. Spending five minutes afterwards with a microfiber towel and good spray detailer helps. For me, this is a better choice than a full-service wash where you have no control over the towels and techniques they use and other things like pulling the wipers off the windshield improperly, etc. The other choices are the self-service wash with the wand and brush (you don't want to use the brush).

Since in the winter ImageUploadedByTapatalk1347967992.055978.webphave no logical place at home to wash my car, the choice is between less-than-great carwash choices and death by salt.

60+ hr/wk job + crazy wife + 3 kids + silver paint = blissfull ignorance

comments suspect to be unacceptable on this forum ;)

If your going to purchase and own a black car, you should either detail/wash it yourself or pay a professional. taking it to a $5 car wash in any form will scratch it completely. so dont bother buying a black one unless you do it yourself or $$$ a professional.

ppp

TOUCHLESS car washes are pretty useless to do anything other than knock off lots of mud. No matter how well they say it works, it does NOT. I had a BLACK '06 Sonata...absolutely beautiful when HAND washed and waxed but with a black car, as with a white car, the touchless car washes leave a film that nothing other than HAND WASHING will remove.

if you do not want to spend time washing, waxing, and dusting a black car, here's some advice: DO NOT GET A BLACK CAR.

I have been spoiled over the previous Lexus and Mercedes where I get free car wash from the dealer. Time to start learning how to DIY

My dealer will wash my car each time if I want. I choose not to . It is not a good wash . It is not a Hyundai thing, its up the individual dealer.

One thing you gotta keep in mind when using touchless carwash is to make sure you don't get any small residue of wax soap left in some parts of your car....as it will make it hard and damage your paint later on. I had those in my previous black cars and didn't know what it was ( kind of pink looking hardened slime ) I tried removing it and had to put all my force in it eventually damaging that area. I heard it was the residue that wasn't washed up during the carwash.
