  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Going to have to purchase a new set of tires soon. Have 33K on the Dunlops and really haven't had any problems but based on the comments don't think I want another set of them. I found these Sumitomo's with a 70,000 miles warranty for about 200 a tire. Has anyone tried these tires? If you have I would appreciate any comments.
Thanks,
Jeik07

You will be going from a High performance tire to a "H" rated tire. The price is not so good for that tire. An H rated tire will not handle/perform as well as a V or W rated tire. If you want to save money and get a really good tire take a look at the General G-Max, Continental DWS or Kumho Ecsta 4X. Better but more expensive tires would be Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus, Michelin MXV4. I suggest only looking for V or W rated tires which will perfrom much better including shorter stopping distance. Check the tires section of this forum for a lot of info on tires(good and bad)

A fantastic tire that deserves your attention is the Cooper RS3-A and RS3-S. They are superlative UHP tires. The two variants are All Season and Summer. I own the All season variant and have be very pleased with them.

Thanks for the information. Looks like I have some research to do.
At my current usage, I should have about six months before I need to buy.
Thanks again!

Its a good warranty for a V rated tire. Have you checked out the Contimental DWS? Many on this forum really like that tire and its about the same price as the Sumitomo.

The run flat feature will be a game-changer for those of us who have owned certain brands of run flat tires. Sidewall stiffness (to support a flat tire) on some brands makes ride unacceptable. If Sumitomo has figured this part of it out and gotten a decent ride, they will sell lots of these.

It's not a run flat. It is blank next to the run flat part, he probably just copied this info and pasted it and the website by default lists runflat, but is left blank if it doesn't apply.

As someone who used to work in a tire shop, the ONLY Sumitomos that are any good are the HTR ZIIs and ZIIIs. Their all seasons are highly underwhelming, overpriced for what you get, and they have higher than average balancing problems.

Got it. That makes more sense now!

+1 Conti DWS - bought my R Spec with 12K miles and it came with those. Seems like a great tire - very quiet but will grip when you need it to.

Next set will be 245/45-19 Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position. I think this is the tire that Hyundai offers as the summer tire. A bit wider than the stock Conti DWS (235).

SO-4's ...the literature Thant came with mine stated that one could expect heavy wear...as ,iChat apps under 15,000 and then replacing. My rears ; one rotation are 3/32 fronts 7/32... The aggressiveness is gone and I have 15,000 on them. May order 4 of them and put fronts to rear and a pair of new on front and keep one pair to replace rears in same manner. I like the way she handles with these, I'd love 40% more tire life ( I 'd also like to date Kim Bassinger) , but I hate to think how all season max perf tires that deliver that will be on car. Any only one have experience with Bridgestone aw to Conti DWS and handling.

Both the Stones and the DW's have great ratings on TireRack including very good wear from people driving "spirited" and I hope to do the same type of mileage. A few M3 owners stating 40,000 miles out of the tires were no problem and same went for the DW's. I only could get about 20,000 miles out of a set of Sumitomo HTRZ III's.

Yea I actually just measured the wear on my Conti DWS - 13K miles, 6/32 on the back and 7/32 on the front. Tire guy said to replace at 4/32.
