  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Not a Genesis question, but a car question nonetheless. I just bought my wife a new Nissan Quest (yippee) and the dealer automatically threw in a lifetime powertrain warranty. Because of all the bells and whistles and moving parts on this thing, I bought the extended warranty. But now I'm thinking I've got double coverage on the powertrain, and therefore paying too much for the extended Nissan warranty. The finance guy knew of no Nissan warranty that would cover everything but exclude the powertrain, and a google search has proved fruitless.

Anyone know of such a product?

(and thanks in advance for keeping this on topic, and not debating the worth of extended warranties).

No such thing, considering the powertrain warranty is what most people are focusing on to begin with.

That would be like medical insurance that did not cover the heart, lungs, and brain, and kidneys.

What are the spec's of the extended warranty thru Nissan ... and how much ?

for my genesis i paid $1100 for 10/100 bumper thru hyundai knowing the power train was covered under the factory warranty... im guessing this was factored into the cost.

for my bmw i purchased after market (never made a claim) for $3100 8yr/70k miles. this encompassed the first 4 years of factory bumper... so basically i paid $3100 for 4 years up to 70k miles.

I've never heard of any aftermarket insurance that would cover items other then drive train.

ppp

It turns out the coverage exists, but I wasn't able to get it on the Nissan, and they didn't offer it for that brand. Only cars that come with a 100k powertrain warranty from the factory are eligible (And I didn't think to ask for the Genesis). They didn't care that I had a lifetime warranty from another third party. The guy told me that it wasn't an option available in the system, so there was nothing he could do.

The company was Warranty Direct, which is apparently a highly regarded aftermarket warranty company.

I'm going to keep looking since that type of coverage apparently exists.

@Potty_Pants: The powertrain warranty offered by the dealer is through an aftermarket warranty company. I didn't read through the policy yet, so I need to get a handle on who they are and how strong they are before I make a move on another warranty. The extended warranty I ended buying was about $1400 and it was the typical Nissan warranty. Since I doubt NIssan gives a hoot that the dealer threw in a lifetime powertrain warranty, I assume that their pricing does not account it into the equation.

Exactly. Though not really a supporting argument on why that coverage shouldn't exist. Maybe people already have coverage for heart, lungs, brain, and kidneys, and want to get coverage for the rest of their body.
