  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have recently developed an issue with the tilt steering; it does not seem to want to go down as far as it did initially.

So, in a effort to document the issue, I was wondering if I could enlist in some fellow member's help.

With the wheel all the way forward (towards the dash) and down as far as it goes, I took a measurement from the wiper stalk to the visor:

(Sorry for the crappy pics!:o)

My measurement was 17 inches. Insert jokes here--------> ;)

I was wondering if any other member may be able to take the same measurement, and could post their results. I would much appreciate it.

Thanks!

Chris

Not my member.

There is a TSB for that. Had mine done last week. Wiring harness * 2

Sorry, I kinda forgot about this thread.

Anyway, I measured with the same way you did and got the exact same number...17". Seems good to me :)

Interesting, and I thank you for taking the time to be the only gentleman to measure and reply.

I KNOW mine went down further at one point is the frustrating thing!

I set M1 at one spot (higher), and M2 at another (lower). I usually use M2, and one morning when the wheel returned to its preset spot it was too high.

I then hit M2, and then M1, and BOTH were at the same spot! Now it will not go down further manually than the "high spot" of M1. The seat is in the same spot as before, just not the wheel.

Visually, I know it is higher than previously set at, as I can see more of the instrument cluster hood than I could before. Ergonomically, it feels different from my normal driving postition.

In retrospect, I guess I should have measured it in the M2 postion, but did not anticipate a problem of this sort. I am sure without other's input, I am going to get the "cannot duplicate condition" response that Dealers that seem to be so fond of while under warranty.

Ahhh, what to do....lol.

Interesting! I occasionally get times when my steering wheel has no idea where it is supposed to be when I start that car. Hit my M1 and it doesn't go back into the right place either. Have to adjust it and re-memory...odd.

This is very weird indeed.

Guess the best thing to do is hit a Dealer's lot with a tape measure! ;)

Ok, so I am not crazy! :p

I filled up the tank this afternoon, and as I was leaving, I hit the tilt button to move it down. It moved further than normal!

Once I got home I turned OFF the tilt upon exit feature, and programmed the downward most tilt position into M2. I then adjusted the wheel to where I want it, and programmed into M1.

I also took a measurement using the reference point in post #1, and it was a 17.25"; not the 17" that was measured before. While that does not seem like a lot, the points of measurement do not indicate how much more downward movement is at the wheel, which is much more than a 1/4 an inch.

I suspect if I turn on the tilt on exit feature, it will not allow the wheel to go down as far again, so for now I am leaving it off until the Dealer can look at it.
