  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Why spend that type of money on nothing more than a glorified plug and play kit... IMO if you don't have HID's from the factory do a true projector retro. No need to violate FMVSS and install an illegal kit...

I'll just make this in bullet points. If you want explanations, just ask.

- That is not a full HID conversion, that's not even a 1/16th HID conversion. This did not come with the single most important thing you needed, HID optics
- These are illegal for street use and will make your car a mobile road hazard. You're sending just as much light into other drivers faces as you are to the road in front of you.
- These completely negate the intended purpose of your foglights and are actually highly reducing your vision in fog.
- You cannot use HIDs in high beams. Flicking them on and off without letting them warm up is a sure fire way to kill the bulbs. This is why cars with factory HIDs either have halogen high beams or have bi-xenon optics (the cutoff shield moves in the optics assembly to aim the light).

I have driving lights with 100w bulbs in them that can light up a football field in my 2nd car reserved for people who have this stuff on their cars.

Big +1 to the prior posts. If it is not too late, I would cancel the order and start over. Here are a couple additional thoughts.

1: Consider buying a pair of used HID headlight assemblies from a wrecked Genesis. This will probably be similar to the kit you ordered, but have considerably higher performance. I did this on a prior car, and it worked great. The upgrade was plug-and-play and it performance to factory and DOT specifications.

2: Consider a true HID projector upgrade. I bought several kits from http://www.theretrofitsource.com/ to do this on prior cars too. This takes more effort, because you may have to modify the headlight assembly to fit the HID projectors. However, the outcome is even better and way worth it. I did an upgrade of the "E55" bi-xenon projectors in a car that originally only had standard HID low beams and halogen high beams. The performance was a major improvement. In fact, that is on my "some day wish list" for the Genesis. Even our HID headlights stink compared to other cars I have owned. I expect high beams to light the world, and ours merely light just a little further.

Hmm I contacted their support and they said that it does meet DOT regulations in the United States and is legal is use. What do you guys think? I've screen shot the conversation for future use if needed for return and they try and deny a refund.

I dont know why people are suddenly being negative in HID's when there is plenty of threads on other members with HID's and even a thread explaining on how to put aftermarket HID's without bashing them.

Anyways, as for your questions here are the answers.

I got mine from diode dynamics. They work great and it looks similar from the pictures above your post.
They might blind oncoming traffic ONLY if you dont align them properly as some members here have report it. Just make sure to align them perfectly and you will be fine.

I checked my lights with a couple of friends with their cars in opposite direction to check if i was blinding them and they said NO. I haven't been highbeamed by oncoming traffics either.

As for the foglights i do no recommend because couple of members have reported that HID's melted their foglight housing or something like that. I use LED bulbs instead of halogens which are 6000K and they look great. Of course not as bright as the HID but better than having your foglight housing melted.

No aftermarket kit is DOT approved. In other words if it didn't come installed from the factory it is not legal in the United States. I highly suggest you pay a visit to danielsternlighting.com

The information on this site is from a lighting consultant and it's probably the best information on the web. It is well documented on other automotive forums also.

I appreciate everyone's response and I think I am going to return them after they are sent here. They already provided a tracking id so it's in the process of being shipped.

My question now is, I want pretty much my headlights to be the same color as my LED strip, same with my fog lights AND daytime running lights white as well. I seen someone else was able to make their daytime running lights white.

What is the best way to go to purchase these items? I am a total newbie when it comes to lighting and such. If someone can steer me in the correct direction to purchase the Headlight, Foglight and Daytime running lights that would be great!

Those colored halogen bulbs often reduce usable light output. Plus, they often burn out sooner than normal bulbs.

You can get LED bulbs instead of Halogen bulbs. They look like this:

I got the fog lights on LED bulb of 6000K instead of HID because of some housing melting issues or something. My headlights are HID 6000K aftermarket and i believe it matches the 6000 rather than the 5000K which is pure white since the LED stripe has a little tint of blue.

I don't know if people will say something to me for recommending you LED bulbs over Halogen bulbs....but LED bulbs work for me ;)

LED bulbs do not have the lumens and also can't project the light properly, so really LED's are just for looks for a fog light application. The optics in the fog lights are designed for a halogen bulb specifically. In addition, fog lights should not have a blue or white light spectrum.

Good Performance:
If your goal is simply to match the color of everything and have that HID look, then buy a set of "xenon match" halogen bulbs from a high-end lighting company like Sylvania, Piaa, or Höen. They are a little cooler colored (probably not a perfect match), but they perform reasonably well for a traditional light bulb. Also, they do not last as long as a normal haloben bulb, so just know that you will replace them more frequently.

Better Performance:
Buy a set of 2012 HID headlight assemblies from a salvaged Genesis. This is more expensive, but it is also way easier.

Best Performance:
Buy a set of bi-Xenon HID projectors and retrofit those into your existing housing. You will get the benefit of both significantly improved optics and output coupled with way improved high beam performance. You will love this option.

If the transaction was made by PayPal tell PayPal to cancel the order or something....seems like that was the only way for KAI to actually refund it.
