If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Since I'm pretty much finished with the exterior of my 3.8 I wanted to post a few pictures. Headlights are GP Thunder 7500k H9 (slightly higher wattage than H11 stock bulbs). Spoiler was bought on eBay for $130 and is affixed with 3M molding tape. I also added a heatshield to my custom intake.

Thanks for taking a look.

Most people block out their license plate number when posting pics. There are a few weirdos out there.

I don't understand the black plastic in place of the wood-grain plastic on previous model years. Maybe on the R-Spec, which is supposed to be a little "mean" looking, but they shouldn't have changed the other trim levels (unless they wanted to add real wood).

The 2012 Base 17" wheels are "OK" but not as nice looking as the 2009-2011 Base 17" wheels.

Why can't Hyundai just leave the good stuff alone and only change the crappy stuff? Change for the sake of change is destructive. I see this as a very bad design trend, and maybe things are starting to go downhill on the Genesis from a design standpoint. Hyundai accustomed to catering to middle-class buyers, but if they want to appeal to upper middle class buyers, they are going to have to hire some classier design staff with some taste. That Sonata design theme won't fly with upper middle-class (and above) buyers.

Yeah, I usually blur the plate but didn't this time. I don't know what anyone would do with it anyway, DMV here doesn't really give out information with just the plate number.

I kind of like the black plastic compared to the wood grain, but I guess that's a personal preference. I also live in an upper middle to upper class neighborhood and I don't feel like this Genesis is out of place with the German and Japanese luxuries I see around. I just wanted a great deal on a sporty sedan - I could've afforded more but didn't see the need. I figure that's why most people currently buy a Genesis or Equus right now anyways.

My neighbor's A6 is nicer than my Genesis on the inside, but it's also a newer generation. I wouldn't say it blows mine out of the water with interior quality or appearance either. He was very impressed with the exterior design too - thought it was very last generation 5-series-esque.

Your car looks great.

Mean looking plastic on the R-Spec???

There are some weirdo working for DMV.

I don't mean to suggest that the 2012 Genesis is ugly, just that some of the changes seem to be going a little bit backward, instead of forward. Not a lot backward, but why change the things that are good? Sometimes companies tinker too much with stuff, maybe because they have too many employees whose job it is to make improvements, I don't know for sure. Unfortunately, Hyundai doesn't seem to have anyone in charge anymore who can reign people in, such as a guy like Steve Jobs did at Apple. If you don't have that, pretty soon things start looking like MS crap. I think the guy who designed the 2009 Genesis left the company.

But when it comes to mechanical design or quality improvements, they don't seem enough resources to address the things that people complain about.

Looks very nice congrats!
Like Mark, I prefer a few of the elements of the previous version.
OP, is the chrome lower door trim not for you? I find it looks good on dark colours, but to each his own.

Nice car, OP!

I think the black dash trim was around pre-2012 model. Nothing wrong with the color at all, just the gloss level. It can be a bit blinding in the bright sun. Same problem, though, with the glossy wood dash.

I suppose the chrome strip would look really neat on the black pearl but I don't really miss it. I got a killer deal on this car (just under $30k) so I couldn't pass it up.

Not sure about pre-2012. I will slightly revise my comments to say that for a black interior, I think the wood trim looks better. Need a little something to break up the black. If they wanted darker wood-trim plastic that would OK. I also agree about the gloss. I think real wood is even better.

But my comments do not apply to the R-Spec, which is a car that probably should not have wood trim, or wood looking trim.

Nice pics. I dunno, IMHO I like these new base 17" V6 wheels better. The old "fluted" design looked "old" to me:p Maybe it's because I'm upper-middle class, but still a Gen X'er:grouphug:

And yeah, I'm anxious to see the new 2014 Genny. But if it does drift more towards the Azera/Sonata as far as the look, I'll probably pass on the next go around. The current interior definitely looks like a different level of car. The leaked/KDM 2014 Equus pics give me hope for not worrying too much about this though.

The old (2009-2011) 17" wheels are very much like many after-market wheels that have been put on the Genesis (other than being somewhat small) and they are not "dated." You can check any catalog from an after-market wheel company and will find very similar wheels, and they sell briskly. I am not saying that the new wheels are butt-ugly, but they are going backward in terms of design style, and they should not be changing things that aren't broken. If it were a brand new generation of Genesis (like the next one will probably be) then I could see at least some justification to change them.

The baby-boomer market is still extremely large, and if Hyundai wants to abandon that market in favor of Gen-X or people who have no taste, they will loose.

No offense, but regardless of how much money you have, upper-middle class people don't say "dunno". Class is not about money. That is why Steve Jobs said that the richest man in the world had no taste.

The point ???

Sorry, Mark_888, +1 here for a preference for the 2012 base wheels, and that the earlier base wheels looked downmarket. To each their own. We realize you have a strong feeling on this issue, but that does not make yours "right". To each their own.

By using slang, you have permanently painted yourself as a member of the lower rungs of society. No matter how much you achieve or money you earn, you will always be associated with humans that have barely separated themselves from our primate ancestors.

Downmarket? I doubt you have even seen them.

BTW, I never said the 2012 wheels on Base trim were downmarket, just not as good looking as prior wheels.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Sweet. Thanks for the link. I will definitely look into doing this. I told my wife I wouldn't do much modding to this car but the bug has but again.

I did it myself after ordering from ebay, it's pretty easy and not a lot of $. Go for it!

Based on what would you say that I have never seen them? Do you know anything about me?

What I know about you is that this OP posts "Hey, everybody, look at my new car. thanks for taking a look", and you are there to immediately not to congratulate him on his great new car, because any Genesis sedan is great, but to tell him why what he bought is less desirable than what he didn't buy. You must not get much satisfaction elsewhere, because your focus here is to constantly try to show everybody how much smarter you are than they. Why don't you just crawl back in your hole and let the rest of the community speak productively?

I did not trash the new 17" wheels. All I said there was no need to change them, and "not as nice looking as the 2009-2011 Base 17" wheels." The wider spokes are OK, but don't understand why the spokes need to be "wavy." Obviously, this is just my opinion (as everyone's posts on this forum).

But I will admit that the new 17" rims look better than the 18" rims, which look a little bit like wheel covers slapped on steel wheels to me.

I commented in this thread because this is the first time I have seen them. Sorry if I ruined anyone's life.
