Finally Purchased It!

As of yesterday, I moved to the Genesis 4.6 Tech Package (Black/Black/Saddle) from a 2005 Chrysler 300C.

Well, first thoughts of the Genesis... AMAZING! Truly incredible! Extremely quiet... Very weird not to hear the road or the vehicles around you... Truly amazing. The fit and finish is ridiculous... The glove box is smooth and closes with a very luxurious sound... Same with the center console. The doors have a heavy quality, but easy close to them... The trunk is complete... It is smooth all around and doesn't have little things sticking out everywhere and everything is covered in a nice plastic... Very finished look for a TRUNK! It drives and rides like no other car I have ever been in or driven. It has a nice growl with a very luxurious get up and go to it... Meaning, it doesn't jerk you around like the HEMI does. Very smooth power. The gadgets are amazing as I will use pretty much all of them on a daily basis. Very intuitive joystick and menu setup.

The guy I sold my Chrysler to said that I must feel like a king driving this car... I do It was VERY difficult for me to drive it off the showroom floor and into the snow... But what can you do? It's Minnesota!

Now the negatives... So far, only two... One is winter driving. Today it snowed about 3 inches in Minneapolis... The vehicle struggles from a stop to get going... I had 22" wheels on the Chrysler and they went like a champ in the snow! This vehicle wasn't impossible to drive by any means, just could be much better. Does this vehicle come with all season or what? Second, the stereo has amazing sound, however, it lacks the deep bass that was produced by my Chrysler's Boston Acoustics system... I tried HD channels, FM channels, and XM satellite... Nothing produced that nice deep bass, even on number 10! It does provide a nice crisp sound, however...

Overall, it is one fine piece of machinery... The best car I have ever owned, PERIOD. I'm still amazed that you can get all of this car for under $40K! As with any car, you are left wanting more... But you really can't complain about a single thing with this car! I just hope that all the things that I wish for will be there when my 27 month lease is up! Starting with a 10 position driver/passenger seat with heated and cooled for BOTH!

Cogratulation on your new ride! That is the exact combination I have. You will love this car even more after you have more seat time.
I agree with the winter driving. We have about 5 inches of snow the previous day. I had a very difficult time getting out of my driveway. Maybe the Dunlop tires are to be blame.
As for the Lexicon sound system you should have really deep bass with it. Make sure you check the sound settings for the various media source you use. I believe the factory default setting is "flat".

Congrats on your new car, 3587. Boy, I don't envy you having to pick up a new car -- this one, in particular -- and then head right out onto marginally-plowed roads (I'm in MN, too). I bought mine on Aug 2nd, so I had several months to be anal-retentive about keeping it clean before winter descended. Right now, my black/black car is mostly white on the outside, as well as on the floor mats (PM me if you want a lead on some reasonably priced winter mats, BTW). As we've been getting a few inches of snow pretty much every other day lately, I haven't been too successful getting a car wash to last more than a few hours.

As for winter handling, I didn't even give the stock Dunlops a chance to see how they behaved in snow/ice (even though they are mud/snow rated), as I was dismayed by the numerous VERY negative reviews of their winter performance on tirerack.com. So I bought a set of Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires, which have been on since just before the first snow, and I'm very pleased with how my Genesis is handling on local roads so far this winter.

Interestingly, I'm convinced the car rides and handles better with the Blizzaks, too, which is a pretty damning indictment against the Dunlops (snow tires should NOT be an improvement over summer tires in those respects). If I notice a degradation in ride/handling when I put the Dunlops back on in the spring, I think I'll just replace them with a better summer performance tire right away.

At any rate, welcome to the club. I've only seen one other Genesis around here after nearly five months, so perhaps I'll see yours some time.

It sounds like Denny Hecker sold the most of these... Didn't get mine from there! Not doing so hot right now...

I picked up the WeatherTech mats ($99 front/back)... They actually sell them for this specific car... Not a perfect fit, but they do work.

I have unlimited car washes at the Mermaid... Since I drive by there almost every day, I swing it on through.

I wouldn't mind getting new tires either... I just don't want to have to store them at my place and lug them to the dealership for swapping... I'll try and ride these through the winter... It only gets bad here for a day or two and then the roads are clear... Just difficult during that time. It does surprise me that Hyundai went cheap on the tires... I wonder if just a better all season tire would work... Selling these Dunlops to help pay for the new set?

Either way... This is one awesome car! I hope to get more seat time soon... So far, it has just been back and forth to work... I love the iPhone adaptor... Bluetooth/iPod!

From a stop (in the snow), slide from D(rive) over to the pseudo-manual tranny. Tap up to 2nd, and start from there. Takes just enough torque off the rear wheels that it prevents spinning them. After you're moving, either slide back into D (safe to go back and forth at any time) or upshift to 3rd, etc.

Once again, congratulations! I can't wait for Spring to arrive. That's what, July for you?

Before the snow (700 miles ago) the Dunlops were great "at speed". Also great at high speed cornering.

You've got to remember that online reviews are sometimes posted by people with an ax to grind, or, even if real, reflect something the vast majority will not experience/notice. For example, through November there were 5,100 Gen's sold and about 1,000 owners signed up here(?). If you read the threads you'd get the impression that Hyundai really screwed the pooch with the Dunlops and suspension, yet most of us couldn't be happier. Even my thread about the 'banshee brakes', while honest and accurate, only has about 5 respondees with the same experience.

So... be your own judge.

I haven't driven my Genny in the snow, but I do like the Dunlops in rain and dry conditions.

I hear ya... I'm still debating... I'm sure I can ride these out, but if there is a safer tire out there, I just may have to go after it... But then again, you only have to suffer for a day or two until the roads clear... It isn't good when you get caught in a storm though... Rather slow going!

As far as the suspension goes... I like it, especially on pot holes and small imperfections in the road, but I do feel the rear end buck a little on some bumps... Still holds the road like a champ though... Impressed.

Congratulations on your new Hyundai Genesis! I have a 2007 300C and it's quite noisy inside the car. Road noise and wind noise, mainly.. Very powerful, though. I know the Genesis has a more smooth delivery of that power - but what do you think about that in comparison? I HAVE to assume the 300C had more power higher in the RPM range with more torque available...

Yes, the torque was great on the 300C... It really got up and moved... But I always felt a bit of a lag from the time you mashed the throttle until the time it started to move though... The Genesis has less torque of course, but that smooth delivery really has a nice touch... I like it!
