  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The odometer is at 485 miles (11 when it came off the transport and 15 when I took delivery). I've made a couple of 75 mile trips to the Twin Cities on a 4 lane divided highway, driven in city traffic, and in local traffic.

I'm very pleased at this point---------it's the quietest car I can remember being in, handling is great, ride is slightly on the firm side (but fine), and goes like stink when you use your right foot. Driver's seat and controls (still getting used to some of them) are also fine.

On a scale of 1-10, it is easily a 9. Its "shortcomings" are minor and most of them recognized before I bought it. Among them are:

1. The lack of adjustments and lumbar support for the passenger seat is the most glaring. I'm going to get a lumbar support added to the passenger seat and probably raise it some in the process (even though my wife is 5' 7").

2. Black interior is OK, but boring. Either the cashmere or the saddle would be much nicer and more stylish. Between #1 above and this, I think the Koreans must be a little like some German engineers I've worked with----------you can't tell them anything and they don't totally understand the American market. They need better input from this market and then listen to it. At least they finally added the Chardonnay red color to the exterior choices for the 5.0 equipped cars.

3. The cruise control doesn't kick off when the brake pedal is lightly depressed like all my other cars. You actually have to slightly engage the brakes-------not good. I guess I have to learn to shut it off with the button on the steering wheel.

4. I would prefer the mpg readout NOT to start over with each fill up.

For the first 460 miles that I've tracked fuel consumption on, it's averaged 19 mpg actual. The mpg readout read 26.5 following a fill-up in the Twin Cities and then driving back to Rochester at 70 mph. I will be happy with that on the highway.

The odometer read 9.8 miles after driving past 10 mile markers.

The GPS seems to work pretty well----not hard to program. One minor issue is that it uses the local street name when it is also a main highway #. When what you need is Highway 52 (and the signage is Highway 52), the GPS is telling you to turn on Locust St. That can be a little confusing-------thankfully, the split screen shows you the lane to follow.

Overall, I am glad I bought it--------------it may be a tough choice this summer as to whether to drive the Genesis or the 03 Vette!!

The car has been dirty since driving it away from the dealer. It's been so cold lately, that the car washes were closed. Although sloppy again today, I took it through a car wash and tried to get some pictures. They are not great----------I'll have to try again when the weather is better.

She rocks! I agree with your comments and am glad you are enjoying it.

My 25,000 mile R-Spec review is in the works. It should will be encouraging to people who have just purchased.

:D

I hear what you are saying about trying to clean the car up and take good pictures, pretty tough these days. I agree with your comments, especially the all black interior and the passenger seat. The driver's seat adjusts every which way, and I sat in the passenger seat once and couldn't believe how limited it was. And I wish at a minimum I had the steering wheel with the wood insert on the top from the non-R-Spec V8 to break up all the black and gray. Enjoy the car, and I'm envious about that 427 Vette!

Thanks for your thoughts and contributions! It does look nice cleaned up, even if the weather is conspiring for that not to happen. Gosh it's been so long since I've lived in a snowy climate I'd forgotten about how it collects behind the wheel, etc.

I think you meant "Cabernet" - Chardonnay would be a lot lighter! :)

I agree that it's a great color for the Genesis. I got my '11 4.6 in this color with the light (Cashmere) interior. I'm sure the interior shows dirt more than black, but I like the way it looks.

In my experience, the gas mileage readout underestimates fuel consumption by about 1 MPG. I typically get about 21-22 MPG on the display, so I'm really getting about 20-21 MPG. That's in mixed freeway/city driving.

Yes, a great color and the one I will get on my next Genesis!

I have the Black interior and also live in Minnesota. My neighbor has a cashmere interior for only 1 year and I can see stains on his Floor Carpeting. (Not a pretty sight).

You will be glad that Black is Boring. Black in the only interior color I've had for 20 years.

The cashmere leather interior comes with black carpet!

Good for Hyundai on that !..... I might consider a different color interior, as long as the Carpet was Black.

Edit:......Which brings up an interesting Question. Do all Hyundai Genesis Interiors come with Black Carpeting?

Yeah, my old Subie had a cream colored interior and carpeting. Could see the stains everywhere:( I liked the lighter color, but will likely never buy one again unless it at least has dark colored carpeting.

My bad. Must have had too much wine when I was typing that!! :)

As for interior color, we have an Explorer with a cashmere color type interior. At 100,000+ miles, it is showing some stains and discolorations, but not bad.

The saddle color that Hyundai offers would be good looking with the Cabronet red and much more tolerant of stains. I can't figure out why they insist on only one color interior on the R-Spec when the parts are already in their system and on the assembly line.

I forgot to comment originally, that the material on the inside of the pillars is kind of cheap looking compared to the rest of the interior.

My 2011 cashmere interior has black carpet.

I think black carpet was a good move for Hyundai. In cases though where a lighter color is the only option, maybe it makes sense to Scotchguard the carpet when it's brand new? My thinking is at least it might provide some protection.
