  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Push-button Starting System

It would be nice to keep your car running, in Minnesota during the winter, while having your doors locked while you go inside the gas station... It is against the law to have your car running, with no one in it, and the doors unlocked. Does that help to make it make more sense?

I've heard the buzzing noise since I've owned the car. If its the same noise that everybody is talking about, I believe its the steering wheel automatically locking up.

Hi all--

Has anyone had any trouble with the push-button starting system? When I engage the system (by pushing the button), I get a heavy "buzzing" sound, similar to what kids hear on TV cartoons when the character touches a live electrical wire. I wonder if that's acceptable, or what the standard is? My brother has a new BMW 535 w/push-button starting and it doesn't make any noise. Makes me wonder if it's a defective solenoid energizing, or something else. It doesn't have any problem starting....but I don't want to wait until I'm dead on the roadside somewhere--that woud be a problem!

Thanks for the (soon-coming) help!

I believe its the steering wheel automatically locking and unlocking! After the buzz you will notice you can't turn the steering wheel.

You can do that if you use the actual key to lock your doors.

My new Genesis is about 3 wks old, I have no problems except forgetting to put foot on brake before starting. Perhaps you should have it checked out.

I know this an old post, but I just a Gen and it does make the buzzing at startup. I thought it was the steering repositioning and didn't worry about it until I read these post. Then we took my wifes Infinity in for service and they loaned us a new G37 and it made the same buzzing sound on starting with the push button. I don't think this helps understand the source of the buzzing, but thought it was interesting that another make does the same thing.

Many of the parts on the Genesis are sourced from the same vendors who supply them to other auto manufacturers. This is especially true of higher-end vehicles with lower sales volumes.

I have the same sound when the steering wheel wheel come back to the pre set postion. I read somewhere (don't recall where) that the sound is normal.
