Just had my two day old Continental DWS's road forced balanced after I noticed a slight pull to the right after installation.

I found out about the Hunter balancer because of this thread. Now my Genny runs smooth and straight.

Hey Rudder! I lost track of how many times I have taken it in to the dealer already for the right pulling problem. Alignments including 4 wheel, road force and straight track alignments. Replaced tires and wheels.
Hyundai sent in Field Service Engineer from out of town who supposedly loosened up the "whole front end" and then tightened everything back up. Sounds like same thing with your car. He declared problem solved and left town. First ride with dealer service manager, car still pulling without change. Then the crazy birds started flying: Road crown causes pull; steering is electric assist so you can't let go of wheel; all cars pull, etc etc. So I made him give me a different new Genesis off the lot and we ran the same roads. Guess what? No pulling. Straight as an arrow. Service manager agreed. So the crazy birds aren't flying anymore. Hyundai needs to buy this thing back or replace it. Maybe there is something we could do TOGETHER to get Hyundai's attention. I think this is a systemic problem, not isolated. I will PM you

Rudderman98 's problem was tires not car. Check out his most recent replies on other threads. Radial pull from tires is a very common as is bad alignment. Always rule out the tires which may mean putting a set on tires and wheels known to be good from another car on the dealers lot. Rudderman98 went through three sets of tires with radial pulling problems and I for one had three bad tires in a set that caused radial pull. Just putting on a new set of tires does not exclude the tires from being the problem. The tires have to be proven to not have radial pull when they were on another car.

Not trying to be a Butthead here, just trying to be informed hence my questions. First off, I don't have the pulling issues that others have.

But my question is about the radial pull you mention. What causes this? Have the tire manufactures gotten to far advanced that they can't make good tires anymore? Have our new cars gotten too far advanced that what once was not a problem is now a pulling problem?

I ask this questions as I haven't seen or heard of issues like this untill maybe 3 or 4 years ago. I know that the Pontiac G8 had similar issues. Some of it was blamed on the tie down straps being too tight when they were shipped overseas to the US. It was causing the upper rubber bushings on the front struts to collapse. Could this be a similar issue with the Hyundais? They also had issues with the A arms as well.

I know I had problems in the past with some new tires not being able to be balanced due to a defect when they made the tire. I went thru 3 tires with this issue all from a major tire manufacture. Up until the time I had the issue, I had never heard of such an issue, nor had I seen it. Then I get 3 tires in a row from the same manufacture, same model, with the issue.

Radial Pull, heavy belt splices, weak beads, lateral run-out are just some of the problems with radial tires and these problems have been around for years. When I worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in the 70's sometimes we had several days of manufacturing runs of tires with every tire made during that period of time having radial pull to the outside, others would have a lateral wobble. We sold them as blemished tires back then. Quality controls should catch the bad tires before they are shipped but that does not always happen.

Are there specific tire brands that are more prone to pulling problems ?

Or better yet are there brands that don't have this problem ?

I love my Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Simply amazing grip in the wet. No pull at all. Nice smooth ride. Fantastic handling.

There is no tire brand that has no problems 100% of the time. I suggest doing a web search on the tires you are considering purchasing in order to find out if buyers have had a lot of problems with that tire.
