If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all,

I'm about to order my 2013 RSpec in the White Satin Pearl before the month is over and had a few questions for current owners.

#1) Is the ride that much stiffer then the V6? I travel a lot of highway miles and don't wanna be beaten up by the time I get there, also in city does it stay fairly compliant with bumpy roads?

#2) I have read in other posts about them burning up oil?? Mine has been very good, the oil always looks decent even after 5k+ miles of use.

#3) Highway mileage, is it really < 25mpg? That would be a huge drop from my V6 which has averaged 29+ mpg.

#4) What other things should I be looking for when picking it up? Is there any tell tale signs that it might be a problem vehicle? I'm particularly concerned with the electronics and the new BlueLink features. I'm in a 2013 loaner with tech/premium and in this one the stereo seems to be a lot softer volumed then my 2010...you really have to crank up the dial to get the same level of sound out of it. Also the back up camera seems to be of a lesser quality then mine, or the screen doesn't light up as brightly...not 100% sure but it all seems a lot more muted in color and clarity.

Thanks for the feedback, I truly appreciate it !! :)

I went form a 2012 4.6 tech to a 2013 Rspec in wihite. I love it. Yes, the ride is stiffer. It does seem to track with road imperfections more than the 4.6. I like the changes to the Tech package on the 2013 over the 2012. I also feel the rear view camera has less quality as you stated, its aimed lower and it is darker, not a setting i can change. I only have 2500 miles on mine, but no oil burning. I drove to the west coast, about 400 miles round trip a week ago and was getting 26-27mpg, but i normally average about 18-19 due to my love of the skinny pedal. I love the power and the pearl white. All little things I can live with. Best advice, take one on a test drive on a bumpy road and get a real feel for it.

You need to compare the two. It is a firmer ride, no doubt, but not uncomfortable to me but my preferences may be different than yours.

No problems with oil burning (or leaking).

Highway mileage at legal speeds are in the high 20's. About the same as my 2011 Santa Fe V6.

My 2012 does require more turns of the knob to get more volume but I never have it higher than the low 20's. The car is dead quiet on the road so high volume isn't required.

Can't comment on BlueLink as the '12's don't have it.

My comments are about the same as Landtuna. Except mine is using oil, not leaking it. I've goy 17K miles on it and still love it. I've used it as a family travel vechicle on long trips and have no issues with them. I've gotten 29 MPG a few times when using the cruise on long trips but normally average 27 on those trips.

Best high powered road car I've owned/driven. Mileage great, quiet , great handling, not rough riding( firm like a BMW 550 or MB E500). Really great for 25k less as well!!

On oil issues, I doing about a quart Every 3000 miles, perhaps if I didn't drive it like my 65 street hemi it would be better. Caution, this engine takes 7.3 quarts of oil at oil/filter change. I' ve had a Hyundai tech send me out with 5 qt..fortunately I checked oil in service drive.

Maybe that's my oil issue as well. When I'm alone in the car, I tend to drive it like I stole it. :)

Only one comment for you - order it!

I'm never gonna be a high-mileage driver, so newer owners will soon pass me up in terms of mileage. But in the 2.5 months and thousand miles I've owned/driven my Genesis, I've been excited at every opportunity to just drive it. I'm now used to the R-Spec's more than average steering sensitivity. I found it amazing at first; now it feels normal. The car has presented zero problems (as I'd expect), and has not used a drop of oil (as measured by the dipstick). The car had 7 miles on it when I first drove it. I’ve been very conscientious of the engine’s break-in needs, avoiding long periods of idle, no long constant speeds (via intentional use of engine braking and limiting upper gear use manually), minimal (tho occasional ;) hard acceleration, etc. I’ve broken in all my new cars this way, and have never owned an oil user.

I'm coming from an 06 Sonata LX (top-end, V6 model), and tho some might consider the R-Spec’s suspension stiff, it is SO much more smooth and responsive than my Sonata that I would not want anything "softer". Cabin noise is absolutely less than half of my last car as well. THe Lexicon system's sound is better than in any car I've ever owned period. Bluelink is a nice addition I think and have found it's most useful feature to be the ability send intended destinations to the car from my phone in advance of setting out. Highway mileage for me is accurately right at 25 mpg (as tested several times on a relatively flat 8 mile run).

Bottom line, there’s an element of “rolling the dice” in buying any car, whether used OR new. But I think we’ve all bought our Genesis’ with the understanding that our odds are as good or better at “Casino Hyundai” than at most any other, and that the price of admission offers a lot more for your money.

I do not understand the "sensitive steering" being described by some. My previous vehicle was a 2011 Santa Fe and its steering was significantly more sensitive than the R-spec. In fact, the steering and the quirkiness of the throttle off-idle were two significant reasons we decided to trade it rather than keep it.

In my Santa Fe you had to remember to loosen your grip on the wheel if you were about to sneeze. Any little twist of the wrist and you were instantly in another lane.

Sensitive steering... meaning how much the front wheel angle changes per degree of steering wheel movement. My R-Spec has a much higher ratio of change than any car I've driven, providing a much more "sports car like" feel.

Both my 2000 Avalon and my 1999 Dodge Dakota steer quicker than the R-spec. The former Santa Fe, as described earlier, was significantly quicker than the R-spec. It has taken me a little while to get used to the Genny.

Make sure they took off the protective plastic on the camera lens, i still had mine on when the car was delivered...

The ride is firmer than the 2012 V6 I drove. If I had my choice, I would prefer the springs from the V6 under my car as I don't use it for gymkhanas. However, the R-Spec won't beat you up either.

In a 1000 miles, the oil level hasn't budged on the dipstick (I have been monitoring it closely due to posts here).

The dash mpg readout reads high by 4-6% (not enough miles to be more exact). Cruising at 70 mph, it reads 25-26 mpg which means its more like 23-24 mpg---------but the car is still not really broken in.

If I were driving lots of miles per day and paying for the gas, I would likely opt for the V6.

I just crossed 20k miles today. Yes, I travel alot between my full time J.O.B and my photography business (matter of fact I'm heading to Miami tomorrow for a huge car show I'm covering, Nurotag 2013) and I tell you. I have no issues with the ride at all. I cant find any better way to ride in style, comfortable, enjoying the stereo.

I can also tell you, if you drive the car 80-85mph on the highway, and moderately spirit drive the car in the city, you will average anywhere from 19-21mph combined. However, since the gas spiked this past week, I decided to take it easy on both roads. Doing 65-70 on cruise control on the highway, and driving it on ECO mode on the city. (not dogging it) I averaged 26.5mpg for one whole week. I drove a total of 410 miles from Monday to Friday morning when I had to fill up. And I drive 100 miles round trip a day between home and work.

Bottom line, you will not regret it one bit. And the R-Spec in White is an amazing looking Genesis for sure.

Hope my .02 cents helped. Good Luck.

Thanks all for your comment's / feedback....I noted one other thing on the 2013 that was kinda a bummer, it appears there is no longer a 6 disc changer but instead a single disc in it's place...does it still do DVD Audio?...really hoping it does since I have a nice collection of them and it it one of the things that is really enjoyable about the audio system.

I'm wondering if the rear camera can be replaced with a better quality one, the picture it displays is really poor looking in comparision to my 2010's camera.

Also if I'm looking to get a little note out of the exhaust when I step on it what would be the easiest (not cheesy) way of going about it? If I look at a Borla exhaust does it have to be all the piping + the mufflers or can they be replaced to the stock pipes?

Thanks again !! :D ...found the one I want and had a bunch of pictures sent over from the dealership it's at, now were trying to agree on the #'s.

Which dealership has the white Rspec? the local dealer near me has had one at any given time. Thats how I obtained mine.
