How to take off cup holder cover / lid?

some of my stuff 'fell' behind where the cup holder cover / lid retract. (front one behind the gear shifter).

How do I open up this lid / cover to retrieve my stuff?

Dealer SVC DEPT asking for $260 citing that this is a 'huge' job... I hope there's a simpler way to do this to retrieve my stuff that fell through the crack...

I already tried shove a straw wrapped in dual side tape... Next, I may try to shove a thin wire (clip)...

I have a feeling it would be a big job to get in there.

Just a thought, wouldn't it be easier, and probably cheaper, to go get a new copy of your DL?

Take a thin strip of steel, similar to the strips used to break into a car and stick two sided tape on it. It may take a while but you'll get it back.

Careful on the windows too- I was waiting at a drive-thru window, tapping my credit card on top of the door/window and bloop- the credit card slid right down the window into the door. Thought it would've been a tighter fit. Left card in door- had credit card company send me another card.

I would think it's not TOO difficult, because I can still feel the cards rubbing against the cup holder cover / lid when it slides / retracts into that slot / slit...

How lenient are the cops when it comes to carrying an expired Driver's License? would "i am going to the DMV now" work for the time-being until i find the time to goto the DMV?...

Unless you stick out like a sore thumb for some reason, don't you think you have plenty of time to get to the DMV? What are the chances you get pulled over? I guess the same as the chances your license would drop into the grips of the cup holder. Either way, drive gently and good luck!

I looked at my cover and re-thought the solution,

I would buy thick two sided tape from home dopo (weather strip)

cut (2) 4" pieces and close the lid 2/3 shut

stick the tape on the inside of the lid as far in as possible

oopen the lid and see if the license is stuck to the cover

Eureka! Got my driver's license and credit card out! Used a thin flimsy ruler w/ double-sided tape.

Thanks to all those who gave me these valuable tips! Now I can cancel my appt at DMV and don't have to waste time waiting... whew!

is there a way to remove the lid? My wifes diamond earring fell between the coffee cup holder lid. I've tried a hanger double sided tape nothing worked. Dealer said they charge 100 dollars per hour. Any help please.

Considering the presented options, I think I would accept defeat and go to my local Dept. of Revenue License Bureau and declare my license lost. For $14 (in MO) you'd get a temporary license on paper, and a week or so later -your new DL in the mail…. $14.

Darn... at least my DL and Credit Card had was thin and had lots of surface space for my double sided tape to work effectively... As far as your diamond earring is concerned... It would be a bit of a help if you would post how it looks like, so we can come up with a plan...

But knowing the nature of jewelry and gem, I would assume that there aren't much surface space for it to work... I would goto svc dept in this situation... besides it's worth a lot more than my app $25 worth DL...
