  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ran into a SS Camaro last night while out and about. He and I were playinga littile cat and mouse whiel in traffic to see who would bite. When we got to a open area with no traffic, I could see him coming on fast in my rear view and knew he had punched it. I was doing about 70 when I punched it. Did this a few times on an up hill incline. Pulled all the way up to about 120. a few times when there was no traffic.

Let's just say he's probably headed home to see what's wrong with his car. :) Seems he couldn't walk me like he thought he should be able to. When I looked over at him after slowing down for him to pass me the last time, he wouldn't look over. Oh well. Guess his SS Envy lisence plate needs to be rewritten. :)

Great post... I love the look of confusion as they try to figure out what happened... haha

Haha, good story and I enjoy the element of surprise. To date I feel more comfortable reaching speeds of such when riding a motorcycle opposed to a car. However, just out of curiosity, how long do you think it took you to reach that speed and did the car still feel under control?

Thanks for sharing.

It didn't take long to hit 120, maybe 5 sec. and the car was very stable, even when going thru a slight right hand turn at 120. It looked like the R Spec was handling the turn better than the SS. He was in front of me at that point and I was just keeping up with him. I don't know how stock he was. I do know that he had changed tires from stock as they seemed wider and filled the wheelwells.

Oh boy, I hear the Nazi street racing people coming!!!!

I would imagine he was probably stock. The SS should be a faster car from a dig, but from a roll both cars are in peak power (and the Genny isn't robbing your power with the ESC) and it should be pretty even.

I was hoping to run into my co-worker one night after work (SS-auto) but never had the chance. He now has an SS with the six speed. I think we can can come close to the auto but the manual will have it's way with us.

And yes...these cars are very stable at high speeds. At least to 130

went from a light to about 70 or so with an SS and dead even to me maybe a bumper ahead. he was surprised as I really was as well. however if going at low speeds say 20-30 better downshift manually as the gearing is horrible at those speeds to punch it.

about 300lbs difference in vehicles and the genny has 30 more HP than the auto SS so should be pretty even all around

My father did the same with an SS. From what he told me, the Camaro and the R-Spec were about even from a stop, but out on the open highway, the R-Spec pulled away nicely.

8sp for the win

i also pulled strongly on freeway with a challenger rt I went by him and he pulled up smiling like he wanted to go he hit it and then I did and passed him with no issue and pulled away, he wasn't smiling for long.

just don't race the ss 1Le or the ZL1, as they will leave the genny r-spec behind quite easily. hopefully hyundai will buid a genny that will compete w/ cars like the camero ZL1 , SRT challenger, jag xfr etc.

ZL1 is a beast.
6.2L supercharged engine
580 hp / 556tq

Although with all that said its track numbers say 0-60 in 4.6 from a dig.
Curious what an experienced driver in an RSpec could do against it.

The other thing to keep in mind is that most of us R spec owners will have a significant traction disadvantage from dig with stock 235 all-season rubber, compared to 275 summer on the back of the Camaro.

If you have the summer tires however, that should really help launching the car.

Whoever did 4.6 0-60 in a ZL1 needs to hand over their keys, because that's a terrible time. It should be closer to 4 flat...

You must be looking at a different web site, I see 3.0, 4.0, 4.1 sec. My mom could do better than 4.6 in a ZL1.

rspec is a luxury cruiser with a V8.

it wouldn't have lead from a dig or anything. LZ1 would destroy it without even racing lol.

now if Hyundai was kind enough to make a REAL RSPEC version with a turbo on the V8... OMG YUMMY... though when reality sets in the nannies would slam me back to earth like a parachute that didn't open.

Hyundai has work to do.
