  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Real world driving, I seriously wonder if all the mods people do are worth it:

here's my 2013 5.0 rspec totally stock:

and here it is again with magnaflow, MSA cat deletes, CAI, and the nanny defeat trick:

I will probably put the airbox and cats on again, since they added the most noise, and are most likely to void the warranty.

jalanjalan I noticed your age. I think most guys get that performance modification bug out of their systems prior to say 40...the only time I modify now is if the product is from a major company AND there is a proven benefit with minimal sacrafice. Nothing is free and when you start swapping attributes there is a price (e.g. passenger car tires vs ultra high performance where you certainly are going to get a better handling car with the ultra highs but the ride will be sacraficed). It occurs to me that we have a reasonably priced car with a comprimise between sporty and comfortable that is just about perfect for me.

Jalan jalan,
I think you decision is wise...imagine what it sounds like outside! The "Q" ship is the way to go..pull up next to 5 lite Mustangs and dust em!

Perhaps at WOT close to redline those mods are useful. But at lower RPM ie street driving there is apparently loss of low end torque. Not a trade off I want. I'm pretty happy with the bilsteins, swaybars and magnaflows

Not sure if they add that much HP - I also have the magnaflows and cat deletes. I do think it sounds much better IMO...

Final Vid.

removed the cat deletes and the CAI. Left the magnaflow on. Not much difference from what I can see.

I must be a kid at heart (I'm well into my 50's) because I love the sound my intake makes at WOT. I need to look up the "nanny trick". The electronics are too obtrusive for my taste.

I havent done anything to my intake or exhaust yet.

I get a whoosh/whistling sound from the front left of the car when i press the gas, does everyone else get this?

I would love to get a little more rumble out of it when i want to play.

I rented a Toyota Avalon XLE this week for work, and even though its a smaller engine, it really growls when you get your right foot into it, but it is quiet at idle

To quote Mad Max Speed is a matter of money....the more money you spend the faster you go. Exhaust depending on what path you take will cost anywhere from $350 to north of $1000 and for at best 20 or so more HP. I defy anyone to notice or "feel" 20 more horses except in the decreased thickness in their wallet.

Now you want real fun and a kick in the pants start shelling out the green. A super charger is the way to go but not cheap (3 grand) plus the cost of a special install as G&E's are not exactly having this install done daily. Not to mention the voiding of your rather nice factory warranty but hey you got the bucks right? ;-)

SO other than acoustics and a few ponies more your are correct sir it is not worth your hard earned cash, unless you get serious. Then again whats the psychological gain by having your ride sound even more BA to some it is well worth it.

I really like the idea of the exhaust cutouts.
quiet for most times, variable loudness only when you want it.

I contacted the guy about them, but haven't heard back.

Wasn't sure about the reliability of the cutout motors with that much heat, water, vibration, etc.

Who makes them...? Do you have a link ?

Just be warned especially those of you with emissions inspections these are highly illegal and you may end up getting fined. If I lived in CA I wouldn't even consider a cutout, test pipe, etc. Here is my state's regulation.

In Pennsylvania, vehicles are required to be equipped with mufflers. Exhaust cutouts and bypasses are not allowed to be installed. The tailpipe must exit outside of the vehicles bodyline.

I ran a 4in QTP cutout on my Supra for the past 2 years so far its great, but it's a fair weather car so I can't say how it would in rain and snow but I'd imagine it wouldn't be an issues as the motor and gearbox is sealed.

The Supra had a 4in HKS titanium exhaust before, and while it sounded nice(loud) the cutout give me another level of enjoyment for the car it can be loud when it needs to and be quiet when I want it.

I would never go back to an full exhaust, just cutout from now on. Only downside it does rattle a bit at certain rpms so something to think about.

Yota

Keep in mind that your 2jz is a different animal, and the turbo quiets the exhaust compared to a NA motor exhaust.

Gentlemen, personally I would leave the Genesis Exhaust as is what ever gains are going to be minimum at best and you just might lose a few HPs.

It does sound good (at least from the inside).

I can still hear the exhaust even without the cutouts and CAI. It sounds like sophisticated power :)

I from my early childhood was a supercharger supporter, however after owning a turbo I believe the benefits would be better.

I'd be concerned with the engine... I believe its 11.5 (GDI) for compression ratio. even with a spacer how much could we possibly put on a stock engine 50-100hp. And concerns over the tranny may happen.

It's expensive in the performance market, and to be one of the first much more so ! Engine management / prototyping , failed parts , etc.

Unless Hyundai starts selling the V8 in the coupe and has sales numbers that rival Mustang, Camaro, G37, etc there will not be any tuning companies willing to invest in it :(

ppp

I've built/modded/raced so many things it's a little ridiculous. Forced induction includes a TRD blown T100 4X4, E430 MB, and W210 E55. The truck was not bad as the TRD supercharger was a kit that was "blessed" by the factory and was in fact, installed by a local dealer. It was not "perfect" until I took it to TRD and actually had Bob Garner at TRD tweak it.

The MB's were another story. Anything that already has fairly high compression does not lend itself to forced induction. The E430 ran pretty good with a "piggy back" tuning solution. The E55 was a long running project that I was never completely satisfied with. Tuning is everything, and right now, there simply isn't anyway to make that happen on the G whether it's a blower or turbo.

Here's a couple shots:
