If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I have had my Genesis Sedan for less than a week. It's my first vehicle that is not a BMW in 10 years.
Unless I set the Air Intake to "Recirculate" the car (and drivers seat) do not get cold enough, even in 80 degree weather. I have always kept my A/C set to Intake Fresh Air in any car I have ever owned and I've never had this problem.

Also, I notice the speed of the A/C fan seems to increase slightly when I accelerate... is this normal ?

Advice ? Opinions ?

Thanks,
Joseph

For cooler air I always recirc the air. Fresh air is too hot to cool much on a hot day. Also - the other day I was thinking the same thing, "It's hot in here, the AC isn't working on my brand new car." Come to discover that the vent for the back seats was switched to "hot" instead of cool. Made a big difference when I switched it to cool

What year is your car? Is it still in warranty?

I am former 12-year BMW owner. The Genesis A/C is better than my BMWs were. I never have to touch a button, even when it has been sitting in 95 degree heat. The only thing I wish the Genesis had is the Max A/C button. Anyway, if you think the A/C is weak, I would get it to a dealer for a checkup

make sure the vent behind the front armrest (which directs air to the back seat) is set to cool.

^ Exactly. It's not working right and should go to the dealer. The more I leave my controls alone (leave it in auto) the better it is.

Please leave it in auto

It sounds like your trying something that doesnt work as expected.

Comming from a bmw.. it had the worst ac ever...but the best heater. Imo you cant fight the design of the car....go with the flow.

Set it on auto and see if its cool...if not then theres an ac problem

Ppp

Good point, Sandy. My two grandkids often fiddle with the rear AC controls and sometimes muck the settings up. Some folks don't realize that the four rear vents can be blowing heat at the same time the front is blowing AC (and vice versa). I know that I did not realize this during my initial months of ownership.

I will try leaving it in Auto. I do, however miss the MAX setting that my BMW had. BTW: I discovered the rear vents blowing piping hot air the second day. I made a service appointment for Monday, perhaps I should wait and see how it goes tomorrow. No comments about changing fan speeds ?

Thanks,
Joseph

The Max button and the Recirc button are the same thing, not so? These buttons both close a door in the system to prevent the admittance of outside air. That means that when you used the Max button in your BMW, you were NOT breathing outside air. Same thing when you use Recirc in your Genesis.

On the hottest days here in VA I just hit Recirc, set the temp to LO and regulate the fan speed and vents to my comfort. I really don't bother with the auto setting on such days. I do agree, however, that the AC could use a little more punch. Living in the New York climate, though, it should not be a major problem for you. Good luck at the dealer. Perhaps they will find some other problem that can easily be corrected.

I would run it fully in Auto mode (just put it in auto and set your preferred temperature) and see how that goes for comfort and fan speed. Give it a few days to get used to it. I have not noticed any direct fan speed change with engine speed in mine. However, the fan does change regularly to maintain temperature-- this is no different from my BMWs.

BMW's have a MAX A/C button that temporarily changes all of the settings to maximum cold air production. Then, push it again and it restores your settings. It is awesome. It is probably the equivalent of pushing the temperature down to Lo, but it only requires a single push and you can get back to your old settings. I used to use it a lot when I got into the car after a run and I wanted it cold now.

Exactly. I used to do the same thing. Great feature.

The main point I was making was that in Max you were breathing recirculated air in your BMW, not outside air as you thought. Your Genesis can do everything that your BMW did, perhaps with a few more button pushes.

I live in a very hot climate and find the A/C in the Genny is adequate. I very rarely have the fan set to a higher position nor do I set the thermo very high either.

I do notice that the A/C temp is noticeably cooler when the car is moving as opposed to sitting still.

That variation in fan speed could just be your battery straining to provide enough power. As the engine revs up the alternator will increase its output to the fan motors a little bit and make them run a little bit faster. That is almost normal in any car I have ever owned with A/C.

on hot days turn off the recirculation initially. The air in the car is 20-30 deg higher than outside air. On hot days 90+ if you initially drop the temp to the low position it can overload the system and freeze the compressor line making it less effecient. Best evacuate the cabin air with windows down sunroof tilt, recirc off, temp 67. In 2-3 min it should be comfortable. Then recirculate.

At 53, I have purchased many different makes and models.
I will say that the Gen is the worst.
The volume of air in high fan setting is too low.
The low setting in the temperature setting is not low enough.
I have had to install window film to help the temperature inside the cabin.

I've had mine for a few months, and my experience here in the Texas heat mirrors yours exactly. Above about 85 degrees and in direct sunlight, regular cooling is very anemic. And if the car ever sits in the sun long enough for the inside air to become superheated, the car just will not cool down unless continuously moving forward for about 15 minutes, regardless of whether it is set on standard cooling or recirculate. And yes, I did open the windows for a bit and attempt to blow the superheated air out of the car.

Regarding fan speed, mine seems to be just the opposite. Whenever my speed reduces to around 10 mph, such as when I come to a stop light, the fan speed increases. Then, when leaving the light, the fan speed goes back to regular when I get up to around 10 mph.

I left Texas after 24 years and that fixed the problem for me. Not going back.

Really good tip. On a lark, I checked yesterday after reading this thread, and sure enough I had hot air blasting out the back vents, on a warm day where I was blasting the AC up front. Only took me 3 months to notice, LOL! It was nearly impossible to fix without getting into the back seat to see how to shut off the heat.

Kind of another design flaw IMO. The back temp should be manageable from DIS, or at least default to turn air flow off each time you get out.

I can always tell if the back AC outlet has been set to heat and is blowing hot air by the smell. Whenever that roller control for temp has somehow gotten to the hot setting, I notice an odor like melting plastic.

Yeah, the rear AC is not very sophisticated, IMO, in that it seems to be pretty much a simple air flow control; you can only control the air flow by rolling that knob. So, it seems to be dependent on the front fan speed setting, and if the front AC is on a low fan speed, you cannot get much air flow in the back. Am I missing something?

I'm surprised to read about so many Gennys that have inadequate AC. I'm a very hot natured person and find my Genny is more than adequate. It's the best AC I've had since the EPA made manufacturers change from real freon to the quasi stuff we have to use today.

Additionally I live in the deep south where our summer temps are akin to fried-hell only way more humidity!!!
