  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone noticed an engine whine that seems to be coming from the timing chain covers around the camshafts. Seems to be most noticeable from 1200-2000 RPM.

Our V-8 has done this since new (has about 3800 miles now) and I have not noticed any change in volume. Does seem a little louder when the engine is cold.

Thanks for your comments.:)

I haven't taken it to the dealer as of yet. I was wondering if other R-spec owners have noticed this with their 5.0 engines.

It's really old news here.

Mine has a very high pitched and very light rattle coming from the engine. More prominent when warmed up and at idle.

Not sure why you would say it is really old news. I've not heard anyone mention a whine around the valve covers.

I would like to hear owner experiences.

Thanks!

A simple search for "whine" resulted in posts with following root causes on the first page of posts:
1. Idler pulley
2. compressor
3. transmission
4. power steering

5500 miles. Yes, I hear the engine whine too. Has not changed in frequency or volume. Hoping it is normal for that engine.

GDI Engine... Took mine to the dealer after I noticed it - said it was normal. Did some research on GDI and I think they are right. Sound has been the same for one year and 6K miles.
