Radio Problem - Intermittent

Had the intermittent check antenna message on my 09 Tech package. Had the radio replaced at the dealer friday morning, picked it up and everything worked fine. Went to leave work at 4 and couldn't even get it to turn on. No sound of any kind, no rear view camera nothing. Doesn't help that the service was already closed at 4 and doesn't reopen until tuesday morning due to labor day. Does anyone know what's involved in swapping out the head units? They only had my car in the service area for about 40 minutes. Also I had the remainder of the previous owners XM radio since they had bought it a year in advance, when they replaced it I still had the XM radio, how does that work if they were replacing the head unit? Will have to see what they're saying on tuesday about why it failed.

If hyundai will not cover it, I am considering replacing the controller myself. I have seen it available from Korea on eBay for $600. Does anyone know what the process is to remove the console?

Once in, you can access factory service manuals for pretty much any Hyundai sold for the last several years. The diagrams are sketches but do show pretty good detail on "how it's supposed to work" theory, test procedures, how to remove/install stuff, etc. A lot of the test procedures require Hyundai specific scan tools but the repair procedures use generic tools for the most part.

I have a 2012 5.0 Tech model and I have had the factory amp replaced twice. All systems failed but one time it started working when I pulled into the service line. The two replacement amps the factory sent were universal amps the on that came with the car sounded the best. Each time the mechanic call the factory tech and there is a test they can run to see if it failed but the only answer they have is to replace it I wanted the old one back I figured I would just pull out the fuse 5 or 10 times to get it going again because that is how many times you would have to start the car for it to work again. One time the radio worked but you couldn't do anything it was stuck on the same station as when you shut off the car with the HYUNDAI start up in the DIS. I am very disappointed in this problem lucky since I bought the car in June of 2012 it is the only problem I have had and the dealer is very concerned about keeping my business I have had no problems with them.

There is a new Software load for the system. Have any of you had it loaded? I did and it fixed my problems. Did it about a year ago. the new Sw has a -01 on the end and works on 12 models as well even though it says it dosen't on the old SW which is true. there is a thread or two here about it, just search and you should find it.

I'm supprised they the dealers didn't update the Sw instead of swapping the head unit.

I also had this issue for the first time since I bought my Pre-Owned 2009 4.6 after 5 months of owning it. I called my dealer and the service guy said he was aware the problem does happen and that the easiest way to solve it quickly is to just pull the fuse for the system for a second and that will reset the glitch in the connection between the receiver and the amplifier. Before I could do so I went into a store for maybe 5 minutes and when I came back out it had already reset itself anyway.

He also said that if I didn't want to pull the fuse or it didn't reset itself I could just pull in the dealer for 45 seconds and they would do it for me no problem or charge.

They said that the unit they received was faulty, have yet anotherr one coming in to be replaced.

My dealer made no mention of a software update, do you know if there is a difference in TSB's between Canada and US?

I had pulled all of the fuses in mine attempting to reset it and got nothing.I tried all 3 that say audio and didn't get anything.

Should be no difference. Go to that thread and get the TSB number and ask them about the TSB. If they don't know, then I'd recomend to find a more competient dealer.

Thanks for the info but I have asked the dealer if there is any softwear update each time they replace the radio and they say there is not one for my car each time they test it I am there for an hour and then they have to order it and then an hour to put it in. One time they let me stand in the service area and the tech was on the phone with Korea for about 25 minutes talking to the tech doing test and he said there was nothing they could do the test showed the amp was bad and they would replace it

Check the posted thread with the TSB info. I also included the SW version in there. Unless they have updtated your SW then yes there is a SW update and I posed the TSB that states so. May want to look at a different dealer.

I've only had actual radio problems one time. No screen, even though the radio was working. However, I've had the A/C blow hot air on start up 3 times, and have had to shut down the car, and restart to get cold air. All the A/C lights were on, but just no cold air. Shut down, reboot, and everything's OK. The dealer says the radio head is the culprit, but I'm just out of radio warranty, and the radio will be $5300.00. I'll just reboot, thank you.

New problem. Drove the car and was listening to the radio. Stopped for dinner and when I returned the radio was nonfunctional. No AM/FM, XM, and no Ipod. When switched to XM the DIS displayed "Check Antenna". Drove car home and still no response. Next morning started car and the radio worked just fine. This has happened three times now. Anyone else having this issue? Haven't taken to the dealer as yet because no sense going in when radio is functional.

Exact issue happened three days ago. Drove to an appointment, radio was fine. Came out after 40 minutes, no radio-dead. O.K., turned off car for a few minutes, started the car-dead. Called Hyundai for service appointment, went back to car and surprise-radio started working. Cancelled appointment since the mechanics at are local dealers don't seem to be very sharp.

When you get a frozen Nav-Radio screen, the only way to fly is to go immediately to your Hyundai dealer, or take a descriptive video of the problem. This solves the "not observed" excuse at the dealer's shop. I did this twice. The first time they replaced the screen only. On my second visit they replaced the head unit. No screen freezing problems since then and it's been many months.

I have a 2010 and this same problem happened to me today. I can see the screen, change radio stations, XM stations, see my DVDs, take the DVDs in and out but NO AUDIO. The channel changer on the steering wheel jumps from "1" to the 200s and nothing in between. My biggest complaint so far though is that the front end will not stay aligned and I go through tires constantly. I've taken it to several dealers. The camber cannot be adjusted because it is not a McPherson strut.

I am ready to turn this thing in for a functioning car that doesn't make me fight it down the road. If I let up on the steering wheel it veers either way.
