  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I know the non GDI is 290hp and the GDI is 333hp but that 43 hp make difference, i mean if u drive a non GDI and a GDI 3.8? What the difference you feel? My geny is non GDI :(

GDI is an acromion for “Gas Direct Injection”.
The fuel is injected into the cylinder at the top of the compression cycle. These engines have intake and exhaust valves just like a regular 4 stroke engine, but they also have fuel pumps that produce very high pressures (approx. 2000 lbs.)That is required to inject the fuel directly into the cylinder at the point of its highest compression.
The 3.8, 6 cylinder engine with GDI (333 HP) are only available in the coupe as of this date. The 429 HP. 8 cylinder engines are GDI engines used in the Genesis R spec and Equus product line.

In the US, the only Genesis Sedan 3.8 is the GDI version with 333 HP. Has been that way since 2012 model year.

The 43 HP will make a difference you can feel in acceleration.

The GDI can make more power over a non GDI engine with all else being equal. It's the nature of the design of injectin fuel directly into the combustion area vice in a intake runner.

The earlier cars for the US market without direct injection also had the 6 speed trans. Having driven both, the newer cars with 333HP/291TQ and the 8 speed feels like a lot more than a 43/27 difference.

If you drive normally you will not feel any significant difference. The reason the GDI engines make more horsepower is the cooling effect of injected gasoline at top dead center (maximum compression). This is the time of greatest heat production by the engine and injecting gas at this time helps keep cylinder temps down. Compression ratio's can therefore be higher (producing more power) but without damaging the cylinder, piston, head and valves.

Actually, the 3.8 in the coupe puts out 348 hp. The 333 Hp V6 is in the new Geny sedan

If I had my choice, I would opt for nonGDI because of the crab on build-up problem.

Imagine being in a small boat paddling with our hands, then install a 40HP outboard motor and see how much quicker you are.

GDi 3.8 in sedans came rated 333hp in 2012-2014. Later models 2015-2017 droped rated hp to 315hp.

What extra maintenance is required on the G80 cars with GDI?
GDI engines really should have a catch can. This will filter the oily blow by crankcase gases and prevent them from building up carbon on the back of the intake valves. You should also periodically clean the intake and exhaust valves. Valves are cleaned in non GDI engines by the fuel moving past the intake valve.
