  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Air Filter

:)
:)Did this mod on my 4.6 and there is indeed a noticeable difference (positive). Didn't have to snip anything; held in place with clips. Took less than 30sec to do.

Sweet:) Now proceeding outside to try this on my 4.6!

So, on the 4.6, are we talking about the approximately 1/2 inch thick plastic-enclosed foam filter that is housed in the top piece that seats onto the bottom portion of the housing? I was able to remove this foam filter, although the little plastic clips appear to have cracked away from the top portion of the filter housing. I imagine that it can be put back in and held in place by the tight fit.

Yes that's the one. Two foam layers and a carbon mesh in the middle.

OK, that filter sure doesn't seem like it would impede air flow very much, but I do believe the car has a bit more grunt when you hit the gas!

I also noticed there is some sort of a round flip cap down in the bottom of the lower portion of the housing. The cap seems to be held in the closed position by a magnet. The cap covers a round opening. Does anybody know if that thing flips open when you hit the gas pedal?

^ Indeed it does. It works in the higher RPM range. It is held in by one screw if you wish to remove it and have more air all the time. Fair warning: it does give a little better performance but my MPG suffered pretty badly, so I replaced it lol
