  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm at an age where I don't have to be rational all the time. That's code for kids are all grown and financial obligations are fulfilled. We're planning a move from Minnesota to a warm-weather climate in the next couple of years. I have used every tactic known to man to demonstrate healthy C7 lust to my wife while ensuring she knows she's still #1. Such tactics include: (1) Perfect sunshine car; (2) I promise to let you drive it (or not drive it); (3) I'm fearing the onset of depression -- a C7 will help minimize that possibility; (4) You -- Foxy Lady, will make the C7 look totally outstanding; (5) Honey, just look at the engineering; (6) The Z51 is the best overall value; (7) look at the gas mileage, and we/you can even fill it with regular.

She said the other day: "auto, right??"

:D :D

Hahaha sounds like you've got spousal "buy-in!" Not that I'm trying to influence your decision or anything :D, but for entertainment purposes:

Sounds to me that if you pick a color she likes, you're good to go.

Man it would be really hard not to do it in the "arrest-me-red" color shown at the debut.

Of course every law enforcement officer this side of the Pecos (whatever side of the Pecos one happens to be on) would be on your backside, so you'd never be able to actually speed, but still..

I'm thinking this white car, same wheels, red calipers, etc. Or perhaps the Arrest-Me-Red. :p

It kinda reminds me of the Mark V in white (which is not at all a bad thing). It doesn't look like it per se, just reminds me of it.

 I must be getting a cataract! :D

I feel bad for the OP -- what did I start?

Haha, yeah you're right.... guess I should comment on the original post.

Evening all,

Well today I decided to look and test drive some of the Genny's competition. First on the list was Infiniti's M37. I have to say that the car has really nice interior, comfortable seats, pretty roomy. Driving told a whole different story. It's looks really nice indeed but this car is very noisy!!! Not quiet in the least... Engine permformance is there, but the transmission shifts quick but a little hard. And the ride was a little too firm for me. Did anyone look at the competition before buying a Genny???

Oddly, I found quite the opposite to be true; I found the Genesis a much louder environment to in which to conduct the business of driving as compared to an M56.

I am surprised at your experience, given the Infiniti has Active Noise Control, and also actually turns the climate control fan off when you use either the voice command or bluetooth calling functions. Further, the climate control fan with Forest Air sounds very distant and unobtrusive; not like the Genny which (to me) sounded like you are in a wind tunnel testing facility when set to the max position. Also, M models with the 16-speaker Bose Studio Surround sound system are equipped with Bose Engine Harmonic Cancellation (EHC) which is even more effective at controlling unwanted noises.

A good database is here: http://www.auto-decibel-db.com/

At idle, it rates the 2011 Genesis 3.8 at 46.8 dB; and 70.4 dB at 70 mph.
It rates the 2012 5.0 39.1 dB at idle; and 64.1 dB at 70 mph.

In comparison, it rates the 2011 M37 42.9 dB at idle; 68.6 dB at 70 mph.
The 2011 M37S is 44.6 dB at idle; 68.7 dB at 70 mph.
The 2011 M56S is 42.2 dB at idle; 66.0 dB at 70 mph.

From these numbers, one could draw the conclusions: between the three 6 cyl cars, the M37 in either trim (standard or Sport) is quieter than the Genesis. Further, the M56, even in Sport trim, is more quiet than the Genesis with a 6 cylinder. Between the 8 cyl cars, the Genesis is the more quiet of the two.

I like the firmer shifts and stiffer suspension, but I guess that is a matter of personal preference.

On task here! I was selling a one year old BMW, so no comparo was needed. :D. However, having driven a lot if other cars within a one-year timeframe (I had had my eye on the Genesis 4.6 since its introduction. Having previously owned a slew of Lexus and Toyota cars, as well as MB and Audi, that only left Maserati Q, which was a kick to drive, but a real slut with after-purchase ownership costs.

The arrival of the R-Spec/ 5.0 made all other considerations irrelevant.

Also, I had driven the Infiniti G and M models with various engines, and they were disappointing after my love affair with the ugly 1990 Q45 that was a regular Winston Cup car with 4 doors.

But the 64.1 dB reading for the 2012 Genesis 5.0 is quieter than either of the M readings at 70mph

Yes.... yes it is. I tried to compare same years to be fair. The Genesis 5.0 is a 2012; the Infiniti is a 2011. There was no data on a 2012 R-Spec, which would have been more apples to apples to a 2011 or 2012 M56S; as both have larger wheels and lower profile tires.

In the comparison, the Genesis 5.0 is equipped with 235/50/18 tires; the M56S has 245/40/20 tires.

Notably, the 2013 Genesis V6 is much improved in the area of road noise. However, for purposes of this comparison, there was no data available on a like equipped M series; only for a Hybrid.
