  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on a new Genesis, but have a Nav/map question-
Where does one buy the map updates and how often do they come out?
My Infiniti used a company called Zenrin. Every 15 months, they would have an update but it was $175! Argh!
Whose maps and Nav does the Genesis use?
I'm really glad that y'all are here as the dealer is a dolt. Thanks!

There is a whole thread on maps in the navigation sub-forum. [ http://genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=677 ] I have been told there will be an annual [or there abouts] update made avaialble and it will be a dealer install option and it will cost something [yet to be determined]. There are some posts in here indicating Hyundai has an exclusive vendor who will sell update CDs online which would allow user install. [We'll see]. The NAVI hardware is integrated into the DIS by Harmon/Becker. Don't know if they actually manufactuer it. The map base is provided by NAVTEQ, which IMHO, is the best in the business. The TSB for Campaign T-63 updates the car through April 08. I doubt we will see any more updates until the second half of 2009.

Respons: Map Updates? When and where to buy?

Now THAT was some valuable information. I really appreciate it.
I live in Houston and April 08 is already ancient history.
I hope to pull the trigger on a V-8 with tech in Sapphire Blue. Wish me luck and thanks!

The vendor for map updates is www.mapnsoft.com They did mention the Genesis but they removed it. You can call 1.866.757.0010.

Zenrin USA no longer sells map data. If you want to buy maps it redirects you to navteq. I assume they use navteq. Navteq is really good btw. Maps are on a DVD and get downloaded to the HDD. It will probably take about an hour to finish. Might take longer though. Mapnsoft charges $199 for the update every year but who knows when the Genesis will get an update from them.

no more news on when the new map update is coming; i have been driving on a lot of roads that are non-existent lately...

That TSB is related to the software of the DIS and NAV systems only, it doesn't actually update the maps. The reference to "maps" or "navigation data" in the TSB is only a consequence of a badly labeled field in the service menus of the DIS.

The actual map data/dates are exactly the same before and after that update.

Just came home from a visit to the dealer. I found that Texas FM150 is nowhere to be seen. For those non-Texans, FM (Farm to Market) and RM (Ranch to Market) roads are fine, paved roads. About the only difference between FM150 and nearby US281 is the lack of paved shoulders on FM150 (and most FM and RM roads).

I was out in blank space while dozens of nearby subdivision streets were shown. There was no access shown on the Genesis map to many of these streets, so there could not have been navigation to them.

It is really odd that the three cheap Magellan portable GPS systems in our house have all shown FM150 for years and consistently route us that way.

Did you try zooming in to the 700 ft level? I find the Genny Nav screen is WAY to conservative in showing smaller roads.
