  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello everyone,

Im new to this forum and I recently bought a 2011 Genesis! :). The car has about 28k miles on it and Im already thinking of its longevity. Are fuel additives bad for the Genesis? If not please do advise me on products and or other products that are great for it?

Thanks!

Fuel additives use all the time is not necessary. I use a bottle of injector cleaner about once a year, however for me that's about 30k to 35k miles. I do not use any other additives. I just follow the schedule in the manual plus transmission service every 75k and oil/filter change every 5k. I also change the rear gear oil every 100k. I now have over 114k on my 2011 4.6.

Top tier gas is your best friend, as is full synthetic motor oil. Top tier brands (Mobil, Shell, etc.) are listed on the web. BP is not a Top
tier gas -- their specs actually exceed
Top tier minimum detergent requirements.

I agree with all Homeofstone's comments, except I use one bottle of Chevron Techron in the gas tank every 7,500 miles after I have an oil change.

And if you don't have fuel system treatment laying around, a 750 of single barrell Jack Daniels will suffice:D

Apparently, BP is now Top Tier certified as of mid-2013.

Hmm, apparently some degree of humility and practicality has afflicted them. When the Top Tier standard was first established and major oil companies joined, BP's attitude was "we're better - we don't need to join them." Thanks Mark.

That's possible. Another possibility is that they exceeded the requirements for detergent, but did not meet some other Top Tier gas requirements until fairly recently.

Might be analogous to Amsoil Signature Series motor oil, which is not API certified, even though that oil is a very high quality synthetic oil. Unfortunately, Amsoil Signature can damage emissions systems (due to high levels of phosphorus and zinc) and is not Energy Conserving rated, which are the reasons why it is not API certified and does not meet warranty requirements for most vehicle manufacturers. Ironically, their XL Extended Life Synthetic Motor Oil and OE Synthetic Motor Oil are both API certified, even though neither of these two are as good as the Signature Series in terms of engine protection only. For many years, Amsoil claimed it was too expensive for them to get their oil API certified, but that was a lie.

I use 4 oz. of Marvel Mystery Oil on each fill-up (unless i forget) :)

Aftermarket fuel additives are snake oil. The only fuel additives you need are already in the gas your use, assuming you use higher quality gas (ie Chevron or Shell).
