  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

No digital speedometer on instument cluster

Hmmmmm. Maybe I'm missing something. My 2013 3.8 Genesis with the Premium package, has the 6.5" touch screen NAV. If memory serves me right, the car was built January/13 so I'm guessing the software is current. I have yet to see the Hwy speed on screen. Is there a setting I'm missing or have wrong?

RonJ .....

It's one of the differences between the R-Spec and the Premium package. Your software may be current but the hardware is different. The R-Spec is not a touch screen NAV.

This is a feature of the Technology Package, which is standard on the R-Spec and optional on the 3.8L.

3.8L has three trim levels:
  • Base - no Nav
  • Premium Package - Touch Nav
  • Technology Package - DIS Nav
Obviously there are other differences that I did not mention.

I'll vote for a HUD and of course I'd want a digital speedo with that.

I'll also vote for an adjustable follow distance for the adaptive cruise control. The current minimum setting is too inviting for someone to slide into.

While I do not see a digital speedo as a "must have", I do find that it comes in useful at times. I use an Android app called Car Home Ultra on my Note II. It has provisions for displaying a digital speedo right on the home screen of the app.

A very nice app, thanks for the lead. Works with my S3 too. Bluetooth syncs up and shows me the digital MPH. This is a perfect app for the "back seat driver". <G>

The Digital was in the center info screen...........

Actually, with the Tech package (non-touch), if you go to the NAVI menu, settings, NAVI info, (where you'd check on the nav version number) the top part of the screen *is* a real-time speedo display. Works good to double-check the set speed on the cruise.

I'd like a vertically rolling speedometer like in my 67 Tornado please....and of course a digital gas tank readout cause those analog gages are just not accurate. :D

Carhome Ultra is a neat app for back seat driving.

acar is a neat app for tracking expenses including gas purchases and MPG.

My $90 Garmin GPS has that feature. Also shows the speed limit for at least 95% of roads based on my observation. When you are driving over the speed limit, your present speed number turns from black to red.

The human brain can interpret analog gauges faster than reading digital. That's why racing applications almost always use analog. Hence the old trick of mounting the gauges so that the optimum reading is pointing straight up - no need to read the actual number as the position is good enough.

Analog speed isn't as accurate as digital but then accuracy to the precise MPH isn't normally needed.

Personally, I won't buy a car that doesn't have an analog dash.

Welcome, Sam.

I had a digital speedometer in my '84 Thunderbird. It drove me nutzo.

Once I hit 85 I'd switch it to kilometers and keep going!

I have been meaning to share this simple and clean install mod for months, but I never seem to find the time...

It works well in most lighting conditions, the readout is visible in direct sunlight, if the included windshield reflector is used.

I hope it will do as one possible alternative to address the OP needs;

My M5 has the speed in the HUD, along with turn-by-turn directions for the navigation and tachometer when in M Mode. I miss this information when driving anything else.
