  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am having what could be steering issues. When I turn the wheel slightly off center while the car is cold the steering feels sluggish like the power steering isn't working correctly. If I turn it a little further it gives away and turns just fine. Two different dealerships tell me this is normal. I just wanted to see if anyone here can confirm whether or not this is normal. The car is a 2011 Genesis V8.

How cold are we talking? Everything is harder to do as it gets colder. When it gets down to -30 it feels like I don't even have power steering.

It regularly gets down to the Low 30s to High 40s here in NC. I've seen other forum topics where people have similar problems but I never saw the resolution.

Why not ask to drive a "G" off the lot...

Thats my next step. The first dealership didn't have any 2011 V8s or so I was told but testing another one is definately the next step.

I've got a 2010 v8 in dallas and I've driven it from about 20 degrees (way colder than I'd like) and have never seen that. BTW, heated seats are the bom.

My 2012 does exactly the same thing when it's cold. Feels like a vibration in the steering.

It feels like the power steering isn't barely working when going around turns that don't require much lock. Its a scary feeling because you with no power steering there is no turning this car. I'm taking it to another dealership today so we will see how it goes.

Well I finally got it into a another dealership and the said the BCM is screwed up. Said it was sending erroneous CAN signals to the controller. Either way there is no part number for this so they had to contact Korea. I'll keep you guys posted with how this goes.

Please keep us informed on what you find. In the last week or so, my power steering has started to do the same thing. It will become almost impossible to turn the wheel in one direction, but no problem in the opposite direction. It has also happened while driving. It is very scary when you are going into a curve and can't steer the car. I had a close call yesterday and I am calling the dealer today to get it into the shop.

Mine is a 2011 V8 with 30k miles on it.

Any jostle from Hyundai, contact NTSA. Right away. This is something not to mess with. And contact the state or BBB for lemon law tracking if they have it and the year qualifies.

Ok, here is the update on my power steering issue. I had the car towed to the dealership on Monday. They called several times to let me know they were working on my car and trying to figure out what was wrong with it. They ended up calling the mfg. direct to get help with the diagnosis. Hyundai told them they are not sure what happened or why it happened. They requested the dealer replace the entire steering rack. Since that is not a common repair, we are waiting on the parts from overseas.

On the good side, while waiting they gave me a 2012 Genesis to use.

Please post messages if anyone else has this problem with their car.

Wes

Thanks for your update wstorm

They ended up swapping the ECU. The tech said that the BCM is controlled by the ECU. I just got her back today so I'll let you know if that fixed the issue.

The issue still exists so its going back to the shop.

They checked the car and now Cabby is getting a power steering pump replacement. Hopefully this fixes it.
