  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have been lurking and very occasionally posting here for a couple of years. I finally was able to purchase a Platinum Metallic 2011 4.6 with tech. So far it's living up to my hopes, but you guys already know that.

I have a couple of questions I could use some guidance on:

1. the interior lights don't seem to go on, even when I open the door. I have played with the buttons near the light area on the roof, but nothing. Any thoughts?

2. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3, and I am using the audio cable to connect the phone to listen to music (Spotify and Pandora). I also have a micro usb cable to connect the phone for charging. I though I might be able to have the car read the phone from the micro usb, no luck. Is that possible? The audio works fine for the audio cable, just wondering.

3. I paired my phone, but I wasn't able to get the car to import my phone book/contact list. Any thoughts on why that might be?

4. is there a garage door opener in the car some place? It would be great if I didn't have to get another opener for the car.

If it were not for this great forum, I would have dozens of other questions, but I have been reading all the great posts from members here for a while. When it came time to finally buy the car, I knew more than any of the salesmen I dealt with, all because of this place!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Question 4 - Homelink for your garage door opener is on your rear view mirror. You will be able to assign your garage door to one of several buttons there. Can't help with other questions!

Welcome!

sawyer,

I also have 2011 4.6 with tech and I have Galaxy S4, but I never tried to connect it with micro USB cable to USB port in the Genny to play music from the phone's memory card. I use USB flash drive for that. My guess is that with all recent Android OS updates all phones connect as media devices using MTP protocol, not as USB storage devices. So, I don't think it is possible.

My S4 works fine, had no problem downloading phone contact list. Sorry, can't help you with this.

It's in the mirror. You just need to use correct programming procedure. I have that document, but it is at home, and I am at work right now.

Thanks for the input guys. Yea I found the garage door opener on the rear view mirror while looking at the manual.

I'll try again with the phone contacts, hopefully that will work.

I can't understand why the interior lights don't work, I'll head over to the local dealer and see what they say.

Thanks!

If the Homelink had previously been set then you cannot change it yourself to work for your garage door opener. I'm sure the dealer might be able to do a reset for it.

Thanks for the input guys. Yea I found the garage door opener on the rear view mirror while looking at the manual.

Here is the procedure I used successfully on my 2012:

PROCEDURE:
1. For first time training, press and hold the two outer HomeLink buttons, releasing only when the HomeLink indicator light begins to flash after 20 seconds.

NOTE: Do not perform this step when training the additional HomeLink buttons.

2. Position the hand-held transmitter 1-3 inches away from the HomeLink mirror, keeping the HomeLink indicator light in view.

3. Using both hands, simultaneously press and hold both the desired HomeLink button and the hand held transmitter button.

DO NOT release until the HomeLink indicator light flashes slowly and then rapidly.

When the indicator light flashes rapidly, both buttons may be released. The rapid flashing indicates successful training and the procedure is complete. This also indicates that the garage door opener does not use rolling code technology.

Note: The garage door may open or close during this step.

Steps 4 through 7 are only necessary if the HomeLink button appears to be transmitting after step 3, but the garage door does not operate.

4. Press and hold the trained HomeLink button and observe the indicator light. If the indicator light is solid/continuous, training is complete and your device should activate when the HomeLink button is pressed and released. If the indicator light blinks rapidly for 2 seconds and then turns a solid/continuous light, proceed with the following training instructions for a rolling code device.

5. At the garage door opener receiver press and release the “learn” or “smart” button.

NOTE: Once the button is pressed, there are 30 seconds in which to initiate the next step.

7. Return to the vehicle and firmly press and hold the trained HomeLink button for two seconds and release. Repeat the “press/hold/release”sequence up to 3 times to complete the training process. If successful, your garage door should open or close during this step.

I am afraid that I would forget to clear the settings if I sold the car, so I just use the remote that came with the garage door opener.

Is the homelink different for different model Hyundai's or 2012+ Genesis?? I was able to reprogram my Genesis and Sonata when I moved. I just treated the new garage opener at the 1st programing as normal and this worked for both cars.

I got it all done. I downloaded the directions from a previous thread on here. Followed the directions many times and nothing seemed to work. I brought the iPad out to the car while doing it and did a search on YouTube that showed how to do it.

I wasn't moving fast enough from the car to the garage door opener back to the car. The directions never mentioned you need to do things within a 30 second time period.

All good now!

Thanks for the help and tips. The car is awesome and a ton of fun to drive!
