If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Went to the Richmond VA Auto Show today. Sadly, it's always a second-rate event. Are all Motor Trend shows that way? I didn't expect to see a '15 there and I was right. The thing that most annoyed me was that there wasn't even an Equus there and just one Genesis. What few vehicles Hyundai had were crammed into a small corner of the floor. Poor job, Hyundai.

According to Wikipedia, Richmond is not even in the top 100 US cities in terms of population (ranks 102).

I suspect that the cars at the Richmond auto show were supplied by local dealers and not Hyundai Motor America.

Richmond is the biggest "little city" I've ever lived in. Spent four awful years there in the 70's. I can't imagine why anyone would think it would be a place for any kind of a car show. There is zero car culture there. Hell, there is a bigger local industry selling Civil War relics.

Almost all cities have a car show. Most are run by local dealers in an effort to drum up business. It is nice in that it allows customers to see a bunch of different cars in one place without driving around to every dealer.

1970s are ancient history. Do you really think that things don't change? I'm sure Navajo Indians were living on your AZ lot just before you bought it. And, speaking of relics, AZ still does a pretty good biz selling beads and hand-woven rugs.

But speaking of car shows, it's inexcusable for Hyundai to put on any kind of major event that doesn't include its flagship vehicle.

The Motor Trend auto shows are horrible. Generally only about half of the manufacturers even participate. Here in Greenville S.C. where the BMW SUVs are built and they have a huge presence here with the Performance school, there has never been a BMW at this event. I don't even bother to go. I will go to Charlotte or Atlanta for their shows.

What makes you think Hyundai put on that car show (as opposed to just local dealers)?

That wasn't my point. The point is that if Hyundai and its dealers want to draw flies at cars shows, they need to put the honey out. If you want to sell a Sonata you have to show folks how it's related to a Genesis and an Equus. Sandy, please 'splain some basic up-level marketing concepts again. Some folks need a refresher course.

Since you apparently live in Richmond, why not visit your local Hyundai dealer GM's and explain that to them. I doubt that Hyundai Motor America had anything to do with the Richmond VA auto show.

Or better yet, why not purchase a Hyundai dealership in Richmond VA so you can do it yourself.

I live west of Richmond in Midlothian, but thanks for your guidance. You are still missing the point, however. Where do you live? Yes, I know, it's a secret.

I agree. It's obvious Hyundai Motor America had nothing to do with that car show. I don't understand some people. If you want to see a new car, why not take a small trip to a larger city where those cars are all but garanteed to be? I've done it almost every year. That's not just directed at PMCErnie, but at all of the people in the Spy Photos thread that were wondering whether the 2015 Genesis was going to make it to the smaller venues.

^Still missing the point. At the Richmond show, Ford had two vehicles on display that are not yet available for sale. I could care less about the new Mustang, but the new Lincoln MKC (Escape based) looked interesting to me. If Ford can get some new vehicles there, so could Hyundai, not to mention the missing '14 Equus. Doh!

I didn't miss the point at all. You're upset that Hyundai didn't have a larger presence at a small venue. My point is you can't expect auto makers to always make a showing in such a small market. It doesn't matter where you live in the US, you're never more than a half day away from a large city. With you in Richmond, you have your pick from D.C., Philly, NY(in a couple of weeks or so) and a bunch of other large cities I can't think of right now. There could be a number of different reasons why Ford had a better showing, the simplest of which is they probably had more prototypes built than Hyundai or that the demographic doesn't support showing a slow selling expensive luxury car.

^Nah, I'm not upset. I'm just calling Hyundai stoopit.

I live in a large metropolitan area, but I don't plan on going to my local car show scheduled in a couple of weeks (although I just noticed from the car show website that the 2015 Genesis will be there), party because the admission is $10 and parking is at least $10 (website is unclear on that), and I would spend about $8 in gas round trip.

If I want to see it, I can wait until the 2015 Genesis arrives at my local dealer in about 2 months, at which time I would know the prices, trim levels, and color options. With the internet and forums such as this, I can usually narrow down the cars I am interested in and then visit local dealers and do a test drive. Since I only drive about 8K miles per year, I usually only buy a new car about once every 6-7 years, so I am not shopping for a car this year. But even if I was, I doubt that I would attend my local car show.

I attended the Mpls auto show a few weeks back. Looks like HMA spent some $ since Hyundai had the 1st spot right as you walked in the door. Historically they have been in the back in previous years.

Again, Hyundai Motor America does not participate in every auto show. In smaller markets (sorry if you are offended) the local dealers participate, not Hyundai Motor America. You may think the local dealers are stupid, but they don't have a 2015 Genesis to show.

I don't know about the rest of the country but we have auto malls here that are usually several square miles in size and have a dozen or more dealers and perhaps half again as many marques. Most are open 7 days per week. We don't need car shows to look at current models for sale - just classics, rods and specialty vehicles.

1970s are ancient history. Do you really think that things don't change?

You would think so but after visiting relatives over the past few years I sure didn't see any major changes. And it seems people back there like it that way.

No disagreement there although wouldn't the Equus be the "flagship vehicle"? In any event, advertising for the Genny has been virtually absent in my market for over two years. I have just begun to see TV ads touting the 2014 Genny's.
