If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My car is at 45k miles, and I called my local dealer.
I told the service adviser that the owner's manual states the Fuel filter needs to be replaced at 37,500 miles which I hadn't done yet.
He wasn't sure what I was referring to.
He could only think of the fuel tank filter which is not due yet.

Has anyone changed the fuel filter at a dealer?
Besides this item, and oil/filter change, the rest is just inspections, per manual.
Would you guys do anything else at 45k miles?

well, if its under warrenty then I would do what is recommended at that interval.

Has anyone replaced the fuel filter at a dealership?
My dealer hasn't heard of the fuel filter needing replacement.
And what is the cost?

Maybe check the owners manual and see what it recommends . The dealer will always sell services the manufacturer does not list in the owners manual

The owner's manual does say to replace the fuel filter every 37,500 miles, but there have been several cases reported in this forum of dealers not wanting to replace the fuel filter, even though they would be paid for it by the customer. I get the feeling that they don't trust their own techs to be messing around with the fuel tank. Even if it is required in the owner's manual, not replacing the fuel filter is not likely to cause any other damage that would have a warranty claim denied. They cannot deny a warranty claim unless the missed service is directly related to a problem for which a warranty claim is made. In other words, if your engine starts leaking oil, they cannot blame that on the fuel filter not being replaced.

I for one would get it in writing that they refused not to change the fuel filter so it is documented just incase something happens in the future, Hyundai cannot deny warranty coverage.

according to the manual, the fuel filter is different from the fuel tank filter.
fuel filter is to be replaced every 37,500 miles.
fuel tank filter is 60k miles.

He already stated the manual says to change it at 37.5K....... jeez, read the post in its entirety.

Yes, I know. The OP asked the dealer about the fuel filter according to the first post in this thread.

But my answer stands for both fuel filter and the fuel tank filter, that many dealers say it does not need to be replaced, probably because they don't have many mechanics experienced with replacing those items, and they don't want their mechanics messing around with items that can extremely dangerous if not repaired correctly.

I've driven a lot of vehicles well past 100,000 miles without ever needing to change a fuel filter. One of them is at 234,000 miles and running fine.

Of course, I always buy gas from reputable brands.

I went to the dealer and showed the adviser the manual which indicated the fuel filter replacement. He told me that the filter cannot be replaced.
I almost laughed at his face.
Hyundai prints it in the manual and this guy says it cannot be done.

I didn't argue. I'll listen to other members here who have not had any problems with their fuel filters.

I simply got a oil change and bought a cabin filter for $25 at their parts dept, and which I will install myself. Dealer charges $70 to do a 5 minute job.

Let's finish what you started by making the poster feel stupid by pay $25 (which MAY be rounded off by him).

$14.95 shipping so the total is $31.08.

Sounds like half the information is more dangerous than no information.

I am not trying to make anyone feel stupid, just letting them know of other options that might be useful. Knowledge is power.

You are correct that it wouldn't be economical to order just one cabin filter from that website (run by Hilton Head Hyundai in SC). I order multiple oil filters, multiple air filters, and multiple cabin filters all at the same time to save on shipping, and they don't charge sales tax (unless you live in SC). Plus, If I had to drive to the closest dealer to buy a part (and I was not close by for some other reason), it would cost me at least $4.00 in gas.

If someone is on the west coast, there are other similar websites run by other Hyundai dealers that may be closer and would keep shipping costs down.

Just had the 37.5k miles service done last Saturday. I asked specifically about the fuel filter and was told it was not needed.

They also did the brake lamp switch recall and also a new recall to reprogram the ECM (or something similar). Swapped out the in-cabin filter myself.

i found online places that sell the filter for around $17-20 including shipping.
i didn't mind paying an extra $5 at my local dealer and getting genuine hyundai part.

aside from the idiot service adviser, i really like my hyundai dealer.

because i bought the car from them, i'm getting free oil changes and inspections for 60k miles.

i added up the total out of pocket cost for maintaining my car for 45k miles, and the grand total is $190, not including new tires which i bought at costco.
i am so happy with the low maintenance cost.

as for my new Benz, my first service at 10k miles will be $200!
