Drive Mode

I'm on my fourth day of driving my new vehicle and aside from the voice navigation not doing well for picking up correct addresses there is another item (separate thread on this issue already in progress by another member) I wish the drive mode stayed with the last setting. After you shut down the engine, it defaults back to Normal drive mode each time which means the driver must select Eco or Sport mode each time they start the car. Perhaps this was also the case with the previous model...I don't know. I would imagine most would not want to change their drive mode of their daily regular driving so if you like Normal, you're in luck! Others need to remember to change it each time the car is started.

There is still far more good in this vehicle for what I view as shortcomings but I thought sharing the info is beneficial for those like myself who are new to the car or those that are considering buying it.

This was also the case for the first year (2013) Cadillac ATS. But it was changed for the next year (2014, which my wife has). Hers stays in the mode it was in previously.

Hyundai will probable make such a change also.

Yep. I believe Infiniti is also on that bandwagon now with the Q50S.

Default to normal or deactivation is something I always assumed was due to liability and do think it probably still is. I agree however it would be nice to default to last setting used as this is normally the owners preference.

No more liability than leaving a rear view mirror set where it was. This is a feature available in several competitive models, including BMW and Infiniti, where the key is tied to settings which can be set per driver.

I believe the Drive Mode selector is on all models. It is listed on the standard features list as mentioned above. The first two 2015 Genesis that we drove were base models and they had the Drive Mode selector by the shifter on the center console.

You can see the button at the base of the shift gate on the console in this photo from Hyundai.

In the 2013 it stays in Eco mode unless changed, I didn't notice an option in the car settings for the 2015 but one might be there to make it stay.

Motegi -- Mercy, you have a collection of nice cars (in addition to your new 2015 Genesis). I'd like to know how you like the 2015 Genesis seat compared to your Audi A8L seat. I'm assuming you should be a great source of information since you have so many nice machines. Regards

We just bought the Genesis for the wife on Thursday and got the A8L for me on Sunday. So our actual "seat time" has been rather brief.

The Genesis seat with the upgraded leather and adjustable lower seat cushion extender is a very very nice seat on its own. The multiway lumbar adjustment is also a nice feature as my wife and I have about a 10 inch difference in height. I also love how quickly the seat cooling works.

We took a 180 mile road trip in the Genesis and the seats were very comfortable and experienced no fatigue or soreness.

That being said, my Audi has the Premium package which includes 22 way adjustable front seats with 5 different massage patterns. These things are totally insane. You can adjust how the the seatback and lower seat cushion side bolsters "hug" your torso and sides. You can even adjust the way the top of the seatback curves to fit your posture. The headrest features adjustable flaps to cradle your head like you see on some nice leather airliner seats. Truly you can get a completely custom fit in this seat far beyond what is possible in the Genesis.

Thanks for the info on the seats. I'm familiar with the A8L's 22 way seat functions. My only concern with the 2015 Genesis is the upper seat back which is not adjustable like your Audi and like BMW's optional seat package. But I can see where the new Genesis seat back is not straight as previous years ..... it bends/breaks forward at the top. Now the power side bolsters on the Genesis are very nice, and give lots of lateral side support as a performance car should do (5.0's). I just need to drive the 5.0 and make the jump.
