  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I bought new wheels that won't accept the TPMS. How can I turn off the TPMS lites on the dash? Is there a module somewhere to disconnect? It's a 2012 w/ Tech & Prem pkgs.

It is illegal to disable the system in the car. It's OK to run wheels without the sensors but not ok to change the vehicle.

You can do like my sister-in-law, She put a piece of black electrical tape over the “Check Engine” light on the dash.

How does the rim not accept the TPMS? It's just a small module that is attached to the back of the valve. There are two different types of TMPS mountings. So one would think it should fit any rim, even old steel rims.

Can you elaboriate a little more on why it will not fit?

The diameter of the hole where the valve stem comes thru is not large enough to get a 1/4" drive deep socket down to the bottom of it to tighten the nut on the TPMS stem.

Have you tried a thin wall socket? Pair of needle nose pliers? I'm sure there is a way.

So your saying that they put in a rubber valve stem which is deep in the rim?

Maybe they just didn't try hard enough.

I'm an ex-mechanic/service station owner. All 1/4" drive deep sockets ARE thin walled. Needle nosed are WAY thicker than a socket wall. Are NO, they DID try hard enough. Wish you were there to solve it for me.

Not trying to be a butthead. Been a mechanic for a long time as well. Just couldn't understand why they wouldn't fit. It's hard to beleive that nowdays with all cars having a TPMS on them that new rims would be made that wouldn't allow their installation.

Anyway to drill out the hole some so that you could get a socket in there without messing up the rim? Can you provide a picture so that we can better understand of the issue?

Again can anyone tell me the location of the TPMS module in my 2012 Genesis? I've tried battery disconnect to try to reset the dash lites after mounting the sensor in a wheel barrow tire in the trunk w/ the 3 other sensors inside it @ the correct pressure. No luck. Buying a reset tool or paying to get it reset it quite expensive. Now i would settle to get the damn dash lites off. After going thru buying different valve stems and attaching my sensors to them(dismount, remount, rebalance), I might still have to pay for an expensive reset(could be hundreds of $). HELP

So your saying that you have the TPMS sensors rigged so that they see pressure and yet the TMPS light will not go off? That does seem odd.

While I have not had any issues the ones in my Genney, even when replacing the tires, I know that in my other vechiles, all it took was to fill the tires to the correct pressure and the warning lights would go out.

I don't know about the 2012, but on 2009 if the tpms warning is illuminated, just filling tires to the correct pressure will not immediately cause the warning lights on dash to turn off. You have to drive the car for about 5 min (preferably at highway speeds) for the warning light to turn off. This is discussed in the 2009 owner's manual (not sure about other model years). I can verify that this is how it actually works, because it happened to me one time on a very cold day (when tire pressures are lowered by cold air).

Top right panel below shows the location of the sensor (2009 service manual):

I took mine and put them into a piece of sched 40 pvc tube, suffed it with polyfill so they wouldn't bounce around. Capped the ends and put in a schraeder valve. Just put in 40psi and ive been good ever since. Google tpms pvc pipe and you will find a few how to's
