  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

For those of you who ordered their cars from dealers, how long has it taken to arrive on the lot?

There is no "ordering" system with Hyundai (and most Asian manufacturers). If a dealer wants a certain trim level and color combo (based on customer request or their own request), they ask the distributor/importer (which is Hyundai Motor America or HMA) to reserve one based on cars already scheduled to be built and shipped to HMA. So it depends on how many other dealers want the same car and how many are available.

Longer term, HMA can adjust their manufacturing orders with the Korea plant to better balance supply vs demand of specific trim levels and colors, but that could take months.

Putting down a deposit on a car is not the same as actually ordering one, as can be done with BMW, MB, and some American Cars (not sure about this anymore). Once you order a car to your exact specs, you are committed to purchase it (or pay a cancellation fee) because they are promising to build it from scratch to your specs, whereas putting down a deposit on a car that they may or may not be able to find is not much of a commitment by either side.

Edit: Dealers can also trade cars with other dealers. I assume you already knew that.

When I say ordered I don't mean "to be made". I mean on ship.

2 weeks was obviously optimistic. The “at least one month” suggested was just about right. Car is in country expected delivery next week.

5 Weeks total. Car arrived in California and trucked to NY. Car had 4 miles on it. When picked up.

That works fine so long as dealer can reserve one from HMA that is not already allocated (or reserved) for another dealer. If the supply/demand situation is out of wack, it may take longer.

Thanks for the heads up guys...

A friend of mine is going down to the Dealers on Sunday to place a deposit on a car that is presumable on a ship somewhere. It is a 3.8 2015 Genesis with Beige exterior and interior colors and the Ultimate package. He has to have the car before the end of August before he leaves for New England area. The dealer said it will be here the second week in August.

Given that he was told that the car would be there the second week of August, it sounds like a specific VIN may be allocated to his dealer already. But in the past, I have put down a deposit on a car (with specific options/color at an agreed upon price) and it was up to the dealer to find one (dealer did not know for sure at time of contract if they could find one). I amended the sales contract to give the dealer 45 days to find a mtaching car, or the contract would expire and I get my deposit back (modification initialed by dealer and myself). Dealer found one and we consummated the deal.

He is going to put a clause in the contract that states if deposit is refunded to him if the car does not arrive by a specific date. Then he said he will go buy the Buick Lacrosse. Not sure why a Buick, but that is his decision to make, not mine.

The dealer basically checks with Hyundai to see if there is anything in the pipeline which is not reserved. If there is none such as my case, it takes 1 month to get it on the assembly line which they have not even started yet but due to be built in July for delivery in end of Aug, early Sept. As you can see it is about 3 months if nothing is already scheduled in their system.

Thank You Midnightsun for your feedback.

That's a pretty common color combo. You can't find one already built sitting on a lot somewhere?

Yes I could but none were ultimate’s. You have to remember although 2015s are quite plentiful now that wasn’t the case a couple of months ago. The dealer I finally went to had one on the lot and wouldn’t sell it he said it was worth more to him there then being sold. It also had almost 30 miles on it. It accounted for the sale of 4 others so far. So he offered to order me one and gave me what I thought was a very fair deal. Upon checking his computer he found one just built but not yet allocated. He was able to get it allocated and gave me the vin number as proof. Actually I was kind of glad because even though I wanted the car there I knew it would nice to have one that was never test driven by customers and was brand new. When I finally drove the car home I had 4 miles on it. I was very happy with my decision.

You can actually factory order/drop ship vehicles, however, you must be a fleet customer. Domestic models take about 2 months, while the import (such as the Genesis), are 3-4 months out.

It's a lot easier to just have your local dealer peg one that's allocated to another dealer if it is a tough combo to find. My black on black took a while.

I live in the Seattle area and there are no Ultimates in this area. I did find two 2015 black/ivory 5.0 Ultimates in El Paso Texas. I wonder if my local dealer will by one for me. Also how would it get transported here?

It would most likely be trucked cost included in the price but itemized as such. Like I said before mine landed in San Francisco and was trucked to NY as part of the dealers inventory not a dealer trade or purchase. So the cost was the normal $950.00 transportation cost applied to all cars (Hyundai’s).

Heck. For $950.00 I'll go down there a drive it back. Lol

I am not sure what you mean by "drop ship" or "factory order." I would think Genesis fleet cars for the USA must be ordered from the factory by, and imported by, Hyundai Motor America into one of their ports of entry. Obviously, a fleet order would not go to a dealer first and would be sold directly by HMA to the fleet purchaser.

That $950.00 is transportation from Korea but if you want you can drive back from there.
I kind of doubt that. They charge similar fees for cars made in USA. For example, 2015 Sonata has a freight charge of $810 and it is made in Alabama.

Genesis is made in Korea as you well know. Not sure if the transportation charge can be eliminated. Never asked.

No, the transportation charge cannot be eliminated if you buy from a dealer. If someone (such as fleet buyer) can buy directly from HMA and pickup the cars at port of entry, then maybe they could eliminate the transportation charge. The transportation charge is added by the distributor (HMA), not the factory.

Of course, if a dealer wants to reduce the price they charge you by $950 and then tell you they are waving the transportation charge, they can "say" that, but they are getting charged $950 by HMA.
