  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi, all -
So, I never thought I'd be asking about this, but there's a new 2013, yes 2013, R-spec sitting on a local lot. It's been there for MONTHS and marked down multiple times and now sits at $37,200.

Given this car is a 2013 and they are clearly having trouble selling it, what would be a reasonable offer to make on this thing? It's almost impossible for me to not at least take a look and have some dialogue. If I could get in close to what I got my 2012 3.8 (crazy to think that's even possible), I would maybe pull the trigger.

Btw, it's titanium gray with black interior.

I just bought my 2014 for $40,500. There are a couple 2013 R-Specs in Illinois on sale for $35K. I would offer $35k and see what happens, especially if you are not trading in your car. If doing a trade-in the whole dynamic changes as dealers try to move money from one car to the other.

Negotiate without telling them about your trade. Then once you both agree on a price spring the trade in on them.

Why do you think these cars did not sell (2013) when we are now on 2015.I love the cars but this is kind of strange. Is it the color, or how equipped. No dealer wants a car on their lot for a month let a lone a year or more. Really its out of the normal order of things. Were they damaged when they came in or some legal ( dealer) problem with them. Again , beautiful cars , but I would be careful on this. Also Im surprised Hyundai is not offering better deals on the 2014 models, or that may be coming . Thanks

Would low-balling at around 30k get me laughed out of the showroom? I just find it hard to believe that a new 2013 fully deck out Genesis is still on the lot half way through 2014. It's a good color and the interior is black.

They've got to be willing to get this out asap.

Make an offer, why not. But before anything check its history in their systems. If they would have done something to the car it will be on there. Second check the tires, could have dry spots from sitting to long on the lot.

But I don't see why not.

Dealers make all kinds of mistakes. The dealer I bought from ordered 15 2014 R-Specs this year. They had 2 white ones and one black car left when I bought mine. The local guys didn't want to go as low and offer the best money factor, it was one or the other, so I bought from Withnell in Salem, OR.

There was a 2013 red R-Spec in Colorado, I made an offer of 34K, which they declined. They came back at 36,500. If I were paying cash I might have said yes. But I leased my car, and you can't lease a previous year model. The payments on the 13would have been higher than the 14, and even though it cost less I would gave been even more upside down with the 13. If you are buying you will need gap insurance unless you pay cash or put a lot of money down.

Still a great car at an awesome price!

Dude buy it!:D

My Genesis has been paid off since last summer and if it wasn't for student loans, I'd have a 2013/14 in my garage already. But I figured I'd attempt to do the mature thing and pay off my loans before I get to play any further. The new C7 might be in my future if I don't buy a sedan.

Tried that once from the advice of my brother-in-law who was a sales manager at a big dealership. Got thrown off the lot, and I laughed all the way home, embarassed the poop out of my wife. Doesn't hurt to try, they are going to screw you anyways.:D

Before you do that, get a CarMax quote and to the math with the sales tax difference (if you're in a sales tax state). Then you know your break even point.

There are a lot of '13 and '14 on the lots. people were not buying them as at first, the new model was going to be out in '14, then it slipped to '15. A lot of people just waited it out rather buy. So that's why you see them on the lots. At one time, there was talk of not even having a '14 with such a big change coming for '15.

my dealer has a '13 R Spec and a few '14's still on the lot along with the '15's. Hell, I even saw some '13's sitting in the import lot here when the '14's were starting to roll in off the boats.

We were too far away on this one. Dealer is unwilling (delusional) to budge to much below 36,000. We'll see what happens in a few months.

On a side note, I have USAA and their car buying service. Found a 2012 R-Spec with 11,000 miles for $31,000. These previous generation V8's are really coming down in value. Almost makes me wish I had waiting and not started sinking money into my current V6. Luckily the off the line performance gap isn't seconds in difference from my base model. :o
