Hey I just signed up here after doing a google search on the coupe. Just wanted to confirm a rumor I heard from a Hyundai dealer. My friend who works there said you can buy intake, exhaust, and a tune from the factory for around $1500 and have 300hp under warranty. If this is true this is a HUGE plus for those of us that want a turbo and a fast reliable car that we can bring back to the dealer if any problems arise. Any body else hear this?

Also side question, does anyone have exact specs on the factory wheels? Seeing all these modded pics makes me wish I had a contact in Korea to be asking them

Re: Factory performanc parts

This would be great news. I was going to ask if Hyundai was prepared to offer any factory performance goodies. Hyundai would be doing themselves a HUGE favor by offering such a package!

Here's to hoping!

Just curious about this "tune". I'm assuming it will be some kind of vanilla "performance" tune. I mean, last time I checked Hyundai doesn't have dynos or paid tuner techs in their service shops.

However, if the 2.0T comes with a base tune like the Evo X does (pig rich from the factory), I'd assume the Genesis' "performance" tune will have to increase base HP by a small margin.

Well I would assume the tune is just a standard ecu flash to compensate for the added intake and exhaust flow... from what I gather its a package of sorts. Once something like opensource or accessport comes out you will be able to get a more refined tune than from the dealer but I'm sure they tune very conservatively.

If it is real..

It will be just like anyother box tune.. It will lean the fuel maps a bit, and slightly advance the timing, it might even raise the boost by a lb.

However like most boxed tunes it will then require premium fuel, and since in many places the highest availible fuel is 91oct.. that will be the limit to which the boxed tune will go.

3.8L Stock 87 octane vs I/E/tune for premium

That's whp for the v6 with just bolt ons and a tune. I think it will surprise you how much they're holding these engines back... after all in '91 Nissan had a 2.0L with 203hp stock which slowly moved up to 250hp by 98, and its ten years later. The tune from the factory is protecting their 10 yr warranty

so, it went from 249hp to 297hp !?!?

those graphs look terrible. all over the freakin place. who tuned that thing !?!?

and where are the TQ numbers !?!?

The torque numbers are in kilograms since this was in korea, they're on the graph as well, maybe your monitor is set too bright?

The post bolt-on and tune dyno #'s are: 291hp and 267 ft/lbs

That dyno is exactly what I was talking about, you just do not see a whole lot in terms of gains with a basic tune. Granted you will get a lot more out of a turbo charged motor than you will with an N/A motor..

If you want to mod the car and make big power the 2.0Lt is where it will be at.

I agree - I'm new here, considering trading my 06 Lexus IS350 for a 2.0L Turbo - and the turbo should create a lot of opportunity for performance and tuning.

There's also an easy factory upgrade route of switching in the Track parts which I'm considering since I want an automatic. The real attraction to me is the 30mpg with regular gas - I'm driving the heck out of my IS and the additional mileage and reduced fuel cost are very attractive.

I'm hoping the quality of the interior materials is solid, that's the deal maker or breaker for me, the rest looks very nice.

Keep in mind that automatics suck more power, and are normally weaker than the manual trannies.

True but not as much as they used to be and many are the equal of their manual counterparts. The IS manual is significantly weaker than the automatic and the HP loss difference isn't that extreme.

And considering I'm not going to push it to its limit no matter what tuning I do - this is going to be a daily driver - I'd prefer auto over manual for the driving I do on a daily basis.

i'm almost assuming that 30mpg is the car travelling at 55mpg NOT under boost.

the turbo'd Genesis Coupe will NOT get 30mpg. anytime you get into boost your feeding the ngine alot of fuel, and i'm almost positive this car will run pig rish from the factory. i would say an accurate mileage would be more like 23-25.

and i don't think the i4 will make so much power, hell, the GT30R only made 302ftlbs :stab:

Well the MPG ratings on their brochure for the 2.0T with an automatic are 20 city/29 highway, I know they vary immensely but if you run it like a pig then your right you'll get 23ish.
I run my IS highway all the time, averaging 75mph and get 25mpg steadily, I know other IS owners who are leadfoots and can't break 20mpg.

When they're calculating mpg city/highway they're going by standards. If the average highway speed is 55mph then the test is 55mph and with a 2.0L car not under boost going a constant rate, 30mpg is not only believable, it's expected. I'm not sure how acclimated you are to boosted cars but city mileage is always much lower because going through the gears you're spooling the turbo up.
As for the GT30R only making 302 ft/lbs. That's the first real sign of anyone tuning the car. I know people with DSM's that can't tune for shit getting less than that, as well as people who are expert tuners getting 400 or so. Don't look at the first tune you see as the cap this engine can handle.
I have a feeling I'll be getting a good laugh from more posts similar to this, I'm already 2 for 2

it IS expected, but no one will ever likely see 30mpg because EVERYONE will be boosting the car. on the highway during a roadtrip you will probably see 30mpg, but not likely because people don't usually travel at 55mph on a roadtrip. mpg in a boosted car is REAL different than an N/A car.

i've had an 04 SRT for 3 years, and i've been currently driving a 20G'd STi for 2 years. i'm pretty sure i know how a boosted car drives.

so, from the time this car was released there has been only ONE FREAKIN VIDEO of a dyno session from a big turbo'd i4 Genesis Coupe !?!?!

but c'mon, 302ftlbs !?!? my freakin baby stock turbo made that much in my shitbox SRT with a wastegate and 3" dumped exhaust @ 18psi.

that's terrible.

Yes one video that I could find. It was me who uploaded it. My korean isnt great.

Isnt the SRT 2.4? The Gen Coupe is a 2.0. That's a .4L difference.

I HIGHLY, HIGHLY doubt this is true. Most of the information coming out from dealers are very suspect. In fact, I bet we know more about the Genesis Coupe then some of the supposed "trained" dealer salesman.
