If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GPS Update

Re: GPS Update - Route Planning Doesn't Use Secondary Roads

My 2012 Genesis 3.8V6 uses MapNSoft's Version 6D01, which I believe is defective, in that it does not use secondary highways when doing route planning, irrespective of which route planning option I have selected (i.e shortest, fastest, avoid toll roads, etc.) This prevents you from being able to use the GPS for turn-by turn driving instructions for many locations until you are closer to the destination than you are to the major highway that the software tries to direct you to. On a trip from Bellingham to Great Falls, Mt, I wanted to use the North Cascades Highway, which is considerably shorter than driving down to Seattle and cutting over to I-90, but the software would not find the shorter route. When I had traveled well over 100 miles east via Hwys 20, 97, 17,155 & 174 (about 100 miles from Spokane) the software finally started using the secondary road for route planning and stopped directing me to turn around and go down I-5 and take I-90 east. I have never seen anything so stupid in my life. Same issue driving from Bellingham to Cannon Beach, OR - software version 6D01 wants you to drive all the way to Portland, OR before heading to the coast. When I was about 70 miles from my destination the software finally stopped telling me to turn around and go through Portland. What is strange is the software shows the secondary road on the GPS as I am traveling on it, but refuses to use it for trip routing to my destination. My dealer says this is a known issue, and supposedly will be corrected when the GPS software version 7D01 is released. I just talked with a customer service rep at MapNSoft who says that this version is now available. [contact the HYUNDAI MNSOFT Map Center at 1-888-757-0010, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST Monday through Friday]
Has anyone else had a similar issue with map routing using secondary roads, and has this software update corrected the problem?
Did Hyundai do the software update at no charge under warranty?

I sometimes use waypoints to use secondary roads.

My Hyundai dealership service is just clueless when it comes to GPS updates! My head unit was replaced in May 2013 after the an attempted update disabled it. I got my car back 12 days (YES that's right) later with a new head unit and update (check my previous post if you want the whole lurid story). Fast forward to December and I start to experience the no audio problem. I complain to Hyundai (thanks for the push PMCERNIE) and they decide to exchange the head unit yet again. All went well and I picked up the car with the new head unit several hours later. The new unit is working fine. Here's my beef...the maps in the present unit have many added streets and business in my area. So what update did I get in May? There certainly hasn't been an update of the GPS maps since May SO I apparently didn't get the LATEST update that I was charged for in May.

I'm going to enjoy this car for what it is (I still like it) and what my Hyundai dealership service department is (Piss POOR!) but I will not recommend the vehicle or the company again. Hyundai just isn't Toyota!

^^^ there are comments that this fall (Nov?) there was another update. The one you got in May was likely from late 2012.

DRS you may be right but I don't remember any announcement from any web site (neither Mapnsoft or Hyundaiusa) about a new upgrade. Read above how difficult it was for Carlg to just get an answer whether he had the latest map.

I have a 2012 Genesis 5.0 R-Spec. My GPS is so out of date that the street I built my house on two years ago doesn't appear on the map.
I just took advantage of the information generously provided by carlg to speak to a customer service rep at MNSOFT. He told me that an update will be available the first week of August. The upgrade may be referred to as Version 8. He told me to go to my dealership and ask for the upgrade. If they don't know anything they should call that number and MNSOFT will clue them in. He said if I bought the upgrade from MNSOFT it would be $199, but he doesn't know if the dealer will charge or not. (He also was kind enough to check and assure me that my street appears in the update.)
I haven't gotten anything from Hyundai about the update, but I just sent in a change of address notice that I should have sent two years ago. But if anyone with a "wheel driven" (non-touchscreen) GPS gets a notice of an update, please reply to this post.
It's really nice to hear some good news about my GPS system after all this time.

The Hyundai Map Update website says New map update (V8) to be released soon.

Just bought an updated map for 99.00! However the instructions say it could take an hour or longer to install, just wondering do you have to leave the car running the whole time? If so can I just drive it while its updating? I know the battery won't last that long with the engine off, but I don't want to sit there idling for an hour. Any recommendations?

Throw it on a charger instead of running it. This is what my dealer did instead of wasting my fuel.

Ok thanks, I hope it doesn't have any issues (locking up the AV system) like some of the other guys have had. Maybe it was only on the older cars?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Has Mapnsoft released an update for the Tech that can be updated via USB? Used to be you had to have the dealer do it via CDs and a laptop. The only self-service option was available to premium nav owners.

The 2g maps are supplied on an SD card and they seem to load instantly - it'll be interesting to see how Hyundai supplies the updates for them. A new SD card should be a 15 second plug n play.

Looks like it's done via USB on the pre 2015 at least. They get the map info from Mapnsoft.

On the 2015 the SD card just plugs in to the dash just below the CD slot. That would be the easiest way by far.

It looks like Version 8 is out for anyone who is still looking?

Maybe free for anyone that ordered in the last month or so.

$169 + dealer install on 2009-2012.
$169 + 2013-2014 end user update (i.e. free).

More importantly it looks like there some blue tooth / UI updates for some of the models as part of this update

http://www.mapnsoft.com/hyundai/

UPDATE: Called MapSoft and here is what I found:

1 - If you purchased your MAP between 7/1-8/31 you get a free update (I missed that date by three weeks :().

2 - If you have 2009-2012 DIS - you get map updates only (done at the dealer).

3 - If you have 2013-2014 DIS (self update) - you get the following+;
a- updated map
b - enhanced UI for map / weather etc
c - enhanced voice recognition, with tutorial and POI search!
d - better phone compatibility.
e - better audio 'features'!

He could not confirm if they made any changes to support better 'iPhone' / IOS8 integration?
Other than to say better iOS compatibility.

He confirmed that the new update is currently slated to be AUG/SEP 2015.

Personalty I will wait for a year or two to update the R-SPEC and probably never on the 2009 4.6...
