The drive home through Houston stop and go traffic. 2012 r spec with 26k miles on it is making crazy shift choices all the sudden in lower gears during take off and shifting hard. Looks like I will take it in tomorrow to find out what the heck is wrong. Anyone else experienced this?
 
At the dealership this morning and they say it is a transmission pressure switch. We shall see if that fixes the issue.
 
Just got a call from the dealership and looks like it needs a new transmission, wtf!
 
Not many complaints on here about the tranny. You might have a odd one with a major defect of contaminated system? Thanks for the updates.
 
He followed what the computer told him to do. Replace the transmission pressure sensor and if that did not fix it replace the transmission. Gave me a new sonata off the lot to drive till it was fixed. Nice getting 36+ mpg lol.

Sounds like your dealership puts customer service at a high priority. That is kinda' rare at times.

New tranny is kinda' unusual...... now, shifting down when we press the accelerator to the floor............. well, that's a very common response, but, it's not just the Genny. It's the computer system in most cars these days that causes the delay.

Took me a few months to find out why trannys were all of a sudden having downshift issues, but, alas, it is the computers. One would think a computer would be faster but NOT! If you have a six speed tranny (doesn't work on the 8 speed(?))the only solution I know about is the "sprint booster". It cost $300 but it does the job.

Personally, I don't have $300 extra to throw at this issue, but, maybe one day. Time will tell.
 
I had the same problem. Check engine light came up. Took it to Autozone for diagnostic. Transmission pressure switch. The same thing happened at 18k miles and now again at 54k miles. I hardly ever use the manual shifting feature and drive pretty conservatively. My first set of tires took me up to 53k miles. Taking it back to the dealer to repair today. Last time it took them 4 days.

Just out of curiosity, what is the build date of your car? It is located on a sticker in the driver's door jamb.

Fussed at the dealer about lurching upshifts on my 2012 3.8 with 38K miles. They tried doing the electronics reset on the tranny, but that made it worse. Next thing I know, I've got a new tranny under warranty! The loaner hybrid 2011 Sonata they gave me for the duration was a cute little golf cart, but not my cup of tea. Hats off to Carolina Kia of High Point for taking care of me!
 
Took my 2011 4.6 in for transmission service. it had been 50k miles since last done. I got the car back and it hesitated shifting and also hard shifted at times. It was bad and with 131k miles is out of warranty. The transmission was fine when it went in for service at the dealer. Well after taking it back it was discovered that not enough fluid was put in and the seal that was to be replaced with the new transmission pan/filter was not replaced so basically the technician screwed up. They had to redo the complete service. The car is fine now and shifts as smooth as new. Cause was a little seal about thumb size. I wonder how many times techs have screwed up the same thing.

That's why when Hyundai says the transmission has synthetic fluid good tor life of tranny, I take their word for it.
 
No fluid is lifetime. ZF calls the fluid Lifeguard 6 for the 6hp26 transmission that is in the 4.6 Genesis. Per the ZF corporation website they recommend fluid filter service every 80,000 km to 120,000 km. I would not change fluid in transmissions if I was one to trade cars at 100,000 miles or less. However, I keep my cars to over 200,000 miles and for the last 26 years have changed transmission fluid on my cars years every 50k to 80k miles (including the so called lifetime fluids) and have had no transmission failures and no problems until the technician did not do his job correctly. I think lifetime for Hyundai means the lifetime of the 100,000 mile warranty. Hyundai surely does not mean that if I keep my car for 20 years and 400,000 miles, that the transmission fluid will still perform within specifications.

Problems Not only for the technician but evidently for the service mgr. too. Today I talked with the service manager at Rick Case Hyundai , Duluth GA.and she told me there was no transmission filter in the 4.6 genesis transmission. I was unpleasantly surprised that she did not know that the transmission pan in the Genesis 4.6 has an integrated filter and the complete pan/filter should be replaced by 150k miles. The service is the same as with some BMW's that I have owned. I am not impressed with her knowledge of the products she is responsible for overseeing repairs and maintenance on.
 
My 2011 Genesis sedan 4.6 with 60K has a hard/hesitant shift into 6th gear. I took it to hyundai and they said it needs a new tranny. Shouldn't it be covered under the powertrain warranty? If not, do you think a tranny service would help?
