  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Last night, I put in the address of a new local restaurant as my destination. The distance was about 20 miles from home.

The display was correct until I was about 5 miles from the restaurant. As I turned left onto a different road, about 3/4 of the display went black with the icon showing the car positioned in the black area. Only the very top inch or so of the display showed a map.

Turning the DIS knob or touching the arrows on the display would recover the entire map for a few seconds and then the display would revert to black. The voice commands still worked OK. By tapping the DIS knob, I would get the proper voice response and it guided us to the restaurant correctly.

After dinner, I gave the command to "Go Home" and the display worked OK on the reverse route. Up to now, for about 2500 miles, the map display has always been correct. I had not driven this car on this road before, so I am wondering whether it is a bug in the mapping information. I will try that route again to see what happens.

I've had a few times where the gps would take 5 to 10 minutes to correctly identify my location but that hasn't kept it from trying to assist me to my destination. Your experience sounds very different. Has the display ever acted up with anything else?

The display has been rock solid except for this one instance. I don't think the GPS ever lost position since the voice prompts were accurate all along.

The fragment of the map at the top of the screen also remained accurate and tracked my progress.
