The rattle in my sunroof sounds like there's a little slack in a cable like the roof may not have reached a final stop or may have overshot it.
Theoretically, those of us who have sunroof rattle problems have a method of resetting the open and close limits to see if it helps get rid of rattles or other problems associated with the sunroofs. The instructions for doing so are on page 3-46 of the Owners Manual.
Granted, a reset isn't likely to fix anything, but it's like chicken soup - it shouldn't hurt.
Here's where it gets interesting: I tried the reset procedure. There are two halves to the process; I tried the first half per the instructions and it worked exactly as stated in the book, but when I tried to perform the second half nothing happened. It didn't do anything that was supposed to happen - in fact, the "Auto" aspect of the sunroof operation suddenly disappeared. The sunroof would work correctly, but I'd have to hold the switch to make it complete the operation instead of just a single touch and release.
I went in the house and after thinking about it for awhile went back out because I was going to pull the fuse to try the process again from scratch and when I started I found that the operation had completely returned to normal. Hmmm.
Everything is operating normally, but I'm only back to where I started - I wasn't able to do the complete reset.
For anyone else having the rattle or creaking problem: if you're willing, will you give the reset a try and let me know how it works for you? I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, or if the instructions are wrong or if there's actually something wrong with my roof operation. TIA
