  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have reached my first 3 months of car ownership. I only have 1400 miles on the car. Hyundai is now sending me multiple reminders for my 3 month service checkup. (btw, they did make an initial service appointment for me when I bought the car, but I cancelled it (it was not at a convenient time and I wasn't consulted on what the best time or day would be for ME)

Seems rather soon and a waste of money with only 1400 miles on the car. I was thinking of waiting until 6 months or 3000 miles which ever comes first.

Thoughts? Any downsides of waiting?

Did Hyundai send you that, or was it a dealer? They are separate legal and financial entities. Your dealer would prefer you bring your car in for service every day.

I follow the maintenance schedule as outlined in the owner's manual, and only have them service those items which as specified in the manual (such as oil change, air filter change, etc) at the appropriate mileage interval. They will usually do the inspections for free, just so they can find some other service to sell you.

I got free oil changes for the life of the car. Sweet deal. Its in the contract :)

Sorry - I meant the dealer. Good Advice. I'll follow the maintenance schedule.

I get my car serviced every 7500 miles, period. And since I only drive about 8000 miles a year, I get a crap load of e-mails reminding me that my service is "overdue" (7500 or six months, so I'm obviously exceeding the 6 month cycle). I just ignore them.

Call it quirky or whatever I’ve always been very particular about not going to far on the first oil. Bin doing it forever and I’m not about to change now. 1450 miles first oil change done. Of course from here on it’s strictly by the book. Could be a carryover from the old days. Makes me feel better.

I am going in for the very first oil change tomorrow for my 2012 R spec. I am sad to say that I do not get a chance to drive this puppy and only accumulated approximately 5000 miles over 2.4 years. However, I mentioned that I wanted to get monitored for excessive oil consumption just to be safe. Do you all agree with this approach?

Thanks.

I took ours in at 3000 mi for oil change and a look-over. Dealer service tech said he loved the car and wanted one too and sent us on our way. The car has been problem-free since the day we drove her off the lot.

Absolutely. Personally, I'd probably let them have a look at it once a year even with the low mileage; but that's me.

You want to "get monitored" for excessive oil consumption, but you haven't been to the dealer in 2.4 years? Have you checked the dipstick yourself?

Hello PMCErnie. Although I have visit the dealer for other reasons, I have yet to check my dipstick mostly due to how much I drive. However, going forward you can count on that will become a requirement every time I get fuel.

Thanks.

I was told, and folks verified it on this forum, that the 2015 has a 7500mi or 12 months (not six) service interval. Is this not correct??

All maintenance items are listed in 7500 mile and 6 months increments (e.g., 7500/6mo, 15000/12mos, 22,500/18mos, etc.). In the PDF version of the Owner's manual the maintenance schedule begins on page 7-10. That's my point of reference and what I've based my comments on. Personally, I don't plan on taking my car in for maintenance in 6 months if I only have 3000 miles on the odometer, but that's me personal decision.

Apparently it is shown as 6 months in some places, and 12 months in others. I think it is probably 12 months for warranty purposes, since a lot of people do not drive 7500 miles in 6 months (that would be 15K miles per year). I would check the document that lists the warranty terms.

I think you're absolutely correct. In these two PDF documents (posted back in May):

http://www.hyundaiproductinformation...15_Genesis.pdf

http://www.hyundaiproductinformation...15_Genesis.pdf

It clearly states 12mo/7500mi.

Later, I found a PDF version of the owners manual (perhaps the one FlySwatter is referring to) that said 6mo/7500mi. So I posed a question on the board (I'm such a novice that I can't find it) as to which is correct per the written 2015 owners manual. Someone responded (believe it was PMCERNIE or Ernie3647) that it was 12mo/7500mi.

So now I'm still confused. I would think the written manual would be the "bible" and have precedence over other documents/PDF's.

And yes, Mark888, I'm mostly interested in this from a warranty standpoint. My Lexus IS250 has 6mo/7500mi and it's a pain in the butt/wallet to take it in every 6 months when you only drive 6000 miles per year.

Any further clarification would be appreciated.

Alright, I went out to the car and got my physical documentation: the Owner's Manual, and the Maintenance Log. Both verify the 7500/6mo, 15000/12mos, 22,500/18mos (etc.) maintenance schedule. I would point out two things here.

1. Coincidentally, the 7500 mile interval also happens to match 12,000 Kilometer interval, which I wonder if anyone has confused with 12 months? It's a stretch, but it is kind of funny that the miles/KM conversation works out that way: 7,500/12,000, 15,000/24,000, and so on.

2. The Maintenance Log introduces an additional interval of 3750 miles for severe driving conditions, and those are indicated in red. Otherwise, the 7500 miles/6 mo interval is the same.

Photos below. Hopefully the are readable.

I'm going to stick with the 3,000 mile interval. The smell of the oil at that mileage had an odor of oil that has been well used. Probably wouldn't have hurt it run longer but why take the chance? Changed it then and again at 6,000 miles. Oil is cheaper than engines. Let the dealer do it, get rid of the oil and filter and put it into his computer for future reference. If you give him a good reference you might even get a free oil change like I did.

I hope your first oil change was free without a reference/referral.

I don't know what you are talking about. The maintenance log you posted clearly says (under the line item for Engine Oil and Filter):
"Replace every 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or 12 months."

Holy crap, you're right. I had to do a double take on that. I was looking at the column heading, and completely missed the row annotation that you mention. That is from the maintenance log. In the Owner's manual it also states separately 12 months in the detailed section for the oil and filter. I glossed over both, by reading the main headings. My apologies!
