  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Have 500 miles on 3.8 with Tech package and really loved it,,,But just noticed when go over bumpy road or railroad tracks the car is not as solid as I would like,,,a rattle over driver's window,,Big rattle in Dashboard between Driver "A" pillar and LCD display,,sunroof rattles when open and when roof closed but shade open it seems to rattle on passenger side...

I almost hate to bring it up at servicing since I know that sometimes they make things worse when they try and track down rattles...Really disappointed,,,have had new Caddy's and Bimmers and never a problem . I had hoped this was going to be sort of a luxury car but if this is any indication then I guess it is just a Hyundai after all..

Any thoughts out there,,,Thanks ,,,

Oh, go on. Bring it up to the dealer.

Surprising, since this car has more high and advanced strength steel, torsional stiffness, bending stiffness and length of body joint adhesives than BMW and MB, as well as increased application of foam insulation and a lower road noise than those other models.

+1

Not to mention Cadillac has been dinged repeatedly over the years for interior noises from what I've read on auto rags. I don't recall anything specific about BMW in that regard from what I read. I remember one article that really went out of their way to put down the Caddy. They were comparing it to an Accord and the system they devised to adjust the results was rattles per thousand dollars (as if that's the direction you should adjust) otherwise the Caddy was so much worse they weren't even comparable.

In my experience I've had 0 interior noises unless I've run something over that's making me wince in anticipation, like seeing a large pothole too late to slow down without braking across it and without having a free lane to swerve into. Standard road imperfections, expansion joints, reasonable railroad tracks etc. produce 0 interior noise in my experience.

There does appear to be a sunroof issue that some people experience, but I think some of them said they successfully had it fixed by a dealer.

All that being said the average experience and the individual experience don't always line up. I knew a guy who had 4 jags in a row over a span ending in the mid 90's and swore he never had anything but routine maintenance, then he got a brand new Caddy and had engine problems pretty much out of the gate and was looking into a lemon-law return... that's not your average experience!

I think it's all sunroof related - I get rattles from the front (sounds like passenger side to me, but my wife says it sounds like driver's side to her? I also have had 2 mornings where the whole roof seemed to be groaning/creaking as I drove slowly down my smoothly paved street. Mine is going to the dealer on Saturday(first time back) so I'll report on what they find.

I have a 5.0 Ultimate with zero rattles so far. Just curious, what is the build date of your car. It is located inside the drivers door. Mine is July 8th, 2014. Over time we might be able to tie issues to the build dates of these cars.

I would most definitely return it to the dealer. I would start with the sunroof as suggested above as that has proven in other posts to be an issue and it was corrected. Check out that post and print out the repair that was made to fix it and take it with you to give to the service tech.

I recommend not telling them you have multiple rattles unless you know you can replicate each one to them while there. If you can't, have them work one at a time and correct it then point out the next one.

Agree - I do plan to bring the notes from the forum posts to give to the tech. Build date on mine is May 7, 2014.

On my 2012 3.8, the only thing that rattles over bumps is the flash-light in the glove box! :-)

I also noticed rattles over the driver side window, manual sunshades, sunglass holder and few other noises that I could never identify their sources.

I have also experienced wind noise if driving over 70 mph.

What did the dealer say when you took it back and demanded they stop the rattles?

I have never gumi pfledge, but I just ordered a bottle.

its very popular in the bmw arena, especially convertibles.

Bought in Aug 2014, now have 4300 mi. First oil change and new car punch list last week at dealer. Told them about creaking around center dash, but it was raining that day, so didn't x-shoot. Now pan-roof is creaking at just about every bump or twist of the vehicle. Weather is cooler now and I think all creaks were and are from the pan-roof. Should have done research before buying, but stuck now. I've read similar posts on other Hyundai models and even talk of a service bulletin. And I hate to even think about them tearing the roof apart on a $45K car! Here we goo..

Thanks for the thread simplyaddoo. Very informative. Too bad you can't opt out of pan roof with a tech package. I would prefer normal sun roof over pan roof, even before knowing this problem.

You're welcome. Frankly, I really enjoy the pan roof; it gives the car a much more open feel. My passengers in the back enjoy it even more. I just don't want to have to deal with the annoying rattle. My car is in the dealership the 6th time and this time I've asked them to open up the roof and do what it takes. Hopefully this is the end of my miseries with it.

Mine is also at the dealership for the 6th time today! It will be back for a 7th time when they order me another sunroof seal in an attempt to resolve the sunroof rattle once and for all!

Today I took it in because when I woke up last Sunday to go to church, the car was as dead as a door nail! I mean nothing! It wouldn't even open with the key fob. I had to manually open it with the key and call roadside assistance. When he came, the battery was completely dead (I took delivery of the car 6 weeks ago). Nothing was left on overnight.

I traded in my 2013 Lexus GS F Sport for this car and if my Lexus was at the dealership 3 times in 18 months, that was plenty! This Genesis has been to the dealership for issues 6 times in as many weeks!

If you don't mind me asking, what is the build date on your car? It is located on the inside of the drivers door jam. Mine is July 8th, 2014.

That's terrible! I feel your pain! Annoying to have to visit the shop so often with a brand new premium vehicle!

I am receiving mine today after repairs. They promised me over the phone that the rattle is resolved. But they've done this in the past too. If the rattle is still there, it will be the straw that broke the camel's back.
