  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Fueling warning from manual. Make sure you "Do not top off after nozzle automatically shuts off when refueling." Just read this in the manual and thought I should post this. I am a bit anal regarding rounding off to the nearest dollar. :D

In that case, just put pull out the nozzle at auto-shutoff and put it in a different hole until you reach the next whole dollar.

As far as I know this has always been the recommendation of most cars manufacturers. You need to leave room for expansion especially if you live in very warm climates. You pump the gas from the ground which is cool and if you top off to the brim and go straight home then it will over flow if heated by the hot air assuming you live close to the gas station. If you are travelling and continue on, then it really makes no difference if filled to the brim.

Myth: It's OK to top off your gas tank after the nozzle automatically shuts off.

Those few extra pumps after the nozzle automatically shuts off aren't worth the trouble, especially considering the fuel may just be rerouted into the station's storage tanks in some areas, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. You may also harm your vehicle's evaporative control system that prevents fuel vapors from escaping into the atmosphere. This system is designed to re-burn vapors, not liquid gasoline, that get pushed out of the gas tank when you fill up.

Interesting....I wonder how much fuel could be wasted by overfilling and having it sucked back to station storage tank. Wonder if it would be possible without too heavy a hand to overfill .5 gallons? This of how that throws off your calculated mileage figures, and money spent. Thanks for the tip!

If you overfill the tank, you could flood the fuel vapor storage container. I'm not sure if this could cause the engine to run a little rough, for a while.
I always fill to the next half, or whole dollar, because it's easier to subtract.
Where I live, we use a single hose to dispense gas.
