  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

hi guys,
can i use regular gas instead of premium on my genesis cope 2.0 turbo automat

Hello marik77....i have a 3.8 and will more than likely run Premium, as both of these engines are hi performance. Having the turbo 4 cylinder and running regular you "could" run into some long term engine damage.

Just my 2 cents...

I have the 3.8 in both a sedan and the coupe. I use regular for both cars and it works fine. I'm not sure about the turbo in the coupe. If the manual says it needs premium, then do what the owners manual says. If the owners manual does not require it, then it is your choice.

There is a lot of discussion on other treads on premium versus regular gas. I vote for the cheapest as they both have the same engine cleaner additives for longer lasting engines.

My father was a petroleum engineer, brother was a chemical engineer, and my father in law worked in the "Knock Lab" at a major refinery all his life. They all say the same thing. If the engine does not knock on the regular fuel, then it is fine.

That's true as far as it goes, but most modern engines that have been designed to use premium optionally can get more power with premium, but retard timing if knocking is detected when using regular, therefore getting optimal, but (potentially reduced) performance with either blend.
