  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am replacing the stock mufflers on my 5.0 R-spec. Car is just to quiet for me.

I am keeping the stock H pipe for now and just going the muffler route.

Anyone have any experience with the round 5" mufflers from Magnaflow.

My exhaust shop is recommending me to go with the 5" round mufflers over the standard magnaflow mufflers.

He says that it will sound better, deeper tone.

Can anyone give any experience in on this.

Thanks

I have the Flowmaster Pro-shorty's, which are essentially the same. Yes, it is a deeper, throatier tone.

Yes, $350 for everything, remove old mufflers, weld new magnaflow mufflers installed.

mufflers are like $100 a piece I believe if I were to buy them myself.

Sounds about the same as I am getting quoted here, around 125-150ish for install...

I've been through the exhaust changeover in the past with my Genesis.

When I created my exhaust, there was no company at the time that made a catback exhaust system for my car. I spent about $350 6 years ago for 2 MagnaFlow mufflers and two quad tips. I changed out the MagnaFlow tips later on since they were too big. Then later on I changed out the OEM H pipe for a MagnaFlow X Pipe muffler to further reduce drone. Currently, the MagnaFlow exhaust for a 2009 Genesis is about $610 from PerformancePeddler.com

With all of the trouble I put into the exhaust I would recommend to buy the catback version of the exhaust first. Then you can modify the Catback exhaust from that point if needed. I would probably the MagnaFlow X Pipe muffler installed within the Catback system. Plus the MagnaFlow kit will have mandrel bends, so no factory kinks. In the end you won't have a hacked exhaust and you can return to your factory exhaust upon selling your car, which is a bonus since you'd have an exhaust to sell.$

I agree. Do not hack your stock system apart. You can always sell your aftermarket system for something at a later date to recoup some costs.

Sounds great. I like the sound of the Magnaflow. It's not too loud and not too soft. Just enough rumble.

There is some drone. not terrible, tolerable. anything louder might be too much for me.

Gives a great sound and just enough. My buddies have Gen coupe 3.8 and his exhaust pops and crackles when downshifting which is cool but just not for me.

I love my setup, just changed out mufflers.
