If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Has anyone noticed a subtle wavy/wobbly visual distortion through the front windshield? It is less pronounced looking straight ahead, but if you are looking to the right, it is quite pronounced. You don't notice it as much standing still, but movement shows it up.

I brought it up at the dealer and we looked at another Genesis and it had the same effect.

I'm chalking it up to:
  • A "feature" of the acoustic glass
  • The two cars were manufactured close enough to use the same lot of defective windshields.

My car was built April 17, 2014

Thanks :D

I don't see this issue in my 3.8 AWD Ultimate (delivered in mid/late June)

It's not a feature of acoustic glass, which has been used on Genesis windshield since 2009 MY.

When I was at the dealer getting an estimate for my owwie, I took the opportunity to look at another Genny (Born May 2014) and it also had the distortion too. Not as pronounced, but it was there.

Has anybody else noticed this?

I checked mine yesterday after reading your post and mine doesn't have it. Born date July 8th, 2014.

Ok, I'm reviving an old thread.

I've been going round and round with the dealer on this.

Now the claim is that ALL 2015 Genesis' have this defect. My BS detector is going off. I know that I'm particularly sensitive to the distortion, so it might just be a me thing.

I'm asking all you 2015 Genny owners out there to carefully look out the right side of the windshield from the driver's side and see if you can detect a wavyness. It helps if you scan with your eye and have the car pointed at something with a regular pattern, like siding. It also helps to have a clean windshield.

I have not noticed any issue with my windshield! If the "defect" is there, it's not a problem as I've NEVER noticed any distortion. Therefore, I sure as hell am not going to intentionally try to find a defect I've never noticed in the 7 months I've owned the car!

Request a windshield replacement as a part of your 12-month "Adjustment" warranty.

I had the windshield on my '11 4.6 replaced a few years ago after it was hit by a rock and cracked. The replacement has slight distortion on the lower right side, but it's so minor that I didn't detect it for awhile. I don't notice it while driving, either, even though I know it's there. Like many parts, there's probably some variation in manufacturing (it's likely very expensive to make every windshield optically perfect) with thresholds that determine which ones are rejected and which ones pass through.

That is what I'm trying to do. The claim is that ALL windshields for the 2015 Genesis Sedan have this defect.

4 months into owning mine and I have never noticed this "defect" and I'm not even sure you could classify this as one. However, i went looking for it today and 100% can see and confirm it. The distortion is visible right next to the passenger A-Pillar when sitting in the driver's seat and looking out the windshield.

That being said, I really don't see the big deal here. I had to look for it after knowing it was there and can only see it with the right type of background visible through the glass. It's a slight optical distortion which makes things a bit fuzzy viewed through the glass at the extreme angle.

Thanks! I appreciate the effort. In my case, it is in the center of the windshield.

Your welcome - my point was that if I have not noticed a windshield issue in 7 months of almost daily driving in virtually all conditions imaginable, then it's pretty obvious I don't have any defect that's an issue. So I'd be nuts to look for something intentionally at this point...

Find a new dealer.

I would respectfully disagree, but it doesn't involve a car. -fuggedaboutit

I'm close. I've started dealing with the General Manager. I'm checking to see if I'm getting shined on. He claims that they have elevated the issue to California.

What I said was " I don't have any defect that's an issue". That's the truth - why look for a windshield clarity defect if it has not been noticed in 7 months of driving. Even if I found something now, it obviously has no impact and is, therefore, a non-issue for me. However, if I had an issue that I noticed in the center of my windshield like you noticed, I would insist on a windshield replacement - a dealer telling you this is normal on all Genesis's is BS - and if that was true, then they'd need to do a recall!

Agreed. Don't look for something that is not noticeable to you in the first place.

I'm lucky in that the distortion only exists in a small portion of the glass right next to the A-Pillar. Even there I can only see it when moving across continuous images with lines, like the freeway walls with horizontal lines in them.

Having seen the distortion, I see how this would be an incredibly distracting annoyance if it were more towards the middle of the windshield like yours. I too would call the glass defective if the distortion moved more than a few inches off the a-pillar.
